This is a little late to the post, but Van Hoople is beginning to get the recognition he deserves. A few pieces of information about him. He died at the age of 41 and is buried in Restwood Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. His real name is Robert Warner Hoople and he is the son of a well known regional artist, Warner Wesley Hoople - whose paintings are structural and very realistic and very often of oil rigs amongst the Texas landscape. Van Hoople was married and divorced and while he made most of his paintings while contracted with Hillside House of Originals Gallery, his work demonstrates his commitment to producing fine art that meets the definition of fine art - but was readily available for most people. I find his works to be often times brilliant. As a tiki mug collector, for whatever reason, his works remind me of many of the tikis in my own collection.
