I am sorry, but Taboo Tiki is a great example of artistic spirit, though I myself might not like some of it's examples.

I do not agree with narrowing down the vision of Tiki to "authentic" and "local" iconography. TIKI to me is the god of artists, and it is not the execution that counts, which is totally open to personal tastes and preferences, but the degree of INSPIRATION Tiki provides, in a completely non-orthodox, multi-national and cross-cultural way.

I completely adore and respect the revival of ancient Polynesian culture and customs, but if it means negating the contemporary variations and expressions inspired by it as "unauthentic", it falls prey to the same closed-mindness that led to it's near-extincton in the first place.

Embracing the true AND the contrived leads to acceptance and rejuvenation, let everybody decide what they like for themselves, the key is the term LIKE, which is always positive, accepting and OPENING.
