That's a great goal, Gecko. Miami Beach went through a golden age from the 30's to the 50's and then slipped into decay. It's back now and the art deco design, fashion and international flavor is what everyone tries to perpetuate. It would be great if people in Hawaii recognized the same about Waikiki -- that there was a golden age there during the same time period, and they should do all they can to preserve what is left and re-create what isn't, if possible. It will never be the same, but it could celebrate that era and make people feel really good about being there as opposed to ripping up virgin land on the outer isalnds for new (ugh!) mega-resorts. Marian and I hope to see you next week. |
