These matte tiki mugs seem to be pretty rare (hardly ever on Ebay). I know they are made in the U.S. and there have been white and brown shiny-glazed variations of them. I also know this style is featured in THE BOOK OF TIKI and originated from the Aku Lounge in Lincoln, Nebraska. Can anyone provide some more info about this?

Those may be vintage mugs, but, that style of mug is still being produced. you can get them here for $8.00.

I don't know about the original mug and I don't know about the glaze. I have seen dealers on Ebay claim mugs are vintage when I know they're brand new. They may be old mugs, but, if they're in "perfect condition" they may be new. Just a word of caution.

The mug pictured on the right at the following link appears to be the same mug in white?

Not sure about its manufacturer though or whether its vintage vs. currently manufactured.

uh..

I guess it is safe to conclude that these mugs are repros, and not originals from the Aku Lounge. Here is another auction for a mug with the same mold marked 2002.

Here are two more new auctions for this style...

Holy Moly Al!
You have to get at least 36 quantity to get it for $8.00! Am I reading that correctly?

SugarCaddyDaddy

I wouldn't bid on that mug unless the Aku logo was printed on the back. I have the same one that I got from a frat party back in '96. Midnite's was the real deal, this one is not. Hey Midnite, how about hooking me up with that Aloha Showroom at the price that I have it at now? Just asking...

A

SCD,
I think the 36 mug minimum order is for custom printing on the back. I have to read it again. I'm sure you can buy a few blank ones as "samples"
