lasvegas... any suggestions where to stay

My wife and I are going to a friends wedding at the veneation on 13 nov. We are getting there on the 11 and leaving 14 . Never been there, just wanting your wisdom on prices and locations for a enjoyable stay. Dont plan on being in our room much either.

I recommend the Flamingo. Walking distance to the 2 primary tiki bars, Taboo Cove/Venus and Kahunaville at Treasure Island (TI).

It is also historical Vegas - it was started by Bugsy. It has neon, just like downtown and it has a beautiful pool and a bird sanctuary.

THANKS CHRISTIKI, that link will help us out, I've been online for hours and just cant decide.

For a cheapo option in the same vacinity check the Imperial Palace. It's about as much of a "palace" as a Motel 6 but sometimes a helluva lot less tha surrounding properties. And they have a Tiki themed buffet!

I stay off the strip....crowded, traffic, tourists...the strip sucks! Try Fitzgeralds in downtown, they have good internet rates. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly.

I used to like the Luxor because they had the cheapest jacuzzi room suites (the jacuzzi is right on the window!) but last year I stayed there and the place has gone downhill. good pool area.
I have stayed at the Aladdin several times and they also have a reasonable jacuzzi suite, as well as very reasonable regular rooms. pool area does not get much sun.
the treasure island suites were really nice - but don't get a view of the pirate's battle - it's cool the first time though you can't see much - and after that it interferes with your "quiet enjoyment" of the room - especially at nap time.
I didn't like the Monte Carlo (you could smell cig smoke in the non smoking rooms) - but fabulous pool area; and I've heard the new york new york is not very good (most rooms you can hear the roller coaster).

I've always wanted to stay at the Mirage - they have a great pool area too and lots of cool tropical stuff.

as a tip, before you check in to any of the hotel/casinos, sign up for their "frequent gambler" card - that way you get express check in service and sometimes free upgrades!

What ammenities are ya interested in?

Pool life: Hard Rock, Palms, Mandalay Bay.

Resturaunts: Venetian, Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, MGM.

I am clueless as to night clubs. The youngsters here at work go to The Palms, MGM, and Hard Rock.

being the first time to vegas were not looking for anything special at the hotel, friday night there is party at house of blues and saturday is the wedding at the veneation. So we wont be at our hotel unless it is to sleep , maybe if that.

Also consider whether you're getting a car or not. You can see the main property clusters with a couple of cab rides, but lines for cabs can be long on Friday and Saturday nights. Don't plan on the bus, usually there are always crowds waiting for the infrequent, already crowded buses. Someone else can chime in on the monorail.

Mirage, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, Treasure Island, Caesars, Bally's, and Paris are all easy walking distance from the Venetian. Sadly the Tam-O-Shanter (very swank, musta cost a fortune to stay there) is now closed...

Are Tiki Pug & Futura Girl around? Asking a couple of locals can only help. Also, you can go over to Lotta Living (look at the bottom of the page) & ask Las Vegas Lynne, she's an incredible font of knowledge.

well, if we don't have 'el ranchito' rented out by then - you could rent it? it's near the stratosphere...

Another vote here for the Imperial Palace. You can't do much better in Las Vegas as far as the combination of location and price goes. It's a little worn-out compared to the newer strip properties, but that's part of its charm if you ask me. Plus not only is there the aforementioned tiki-decorated buffet (go for the surroundings--the food is not very good), put there's also the Mai Tai Bar, complete with thatched roof, bamboo, etc.

The Stardust is worth considering too. The location (north strip) isn't as convenient, but's it's the home of Wayne Newton, former home of Aku Aku, and right across the strip from the fantastic Fireside Lounge at the Peppermill.

Two web sites you might want to check out are the Las Vegas Advisor (I hang out in the forums there) and Cheapo Vegas, which has some actual good advice amongst the satire.

House of Blues is at Mandalay Bay and the Venetian is at the other end of the Strip. You will not be able to walk to both.

It really is a matter of dollars, I think the Flamingo is the most cost-effective, although Imperial Palace is usually the most inexpensive and both are located in the Heart of the strip.

The Stratoshphere is usually the least expensive, but it is isolated.

I recommend staying in the Heart of the Strip, and not beyond Treasure Island as you will be able to make the most of your time.

Taxis require a wait and are expensive. With all of the traffic on the strip, a taxi ride from Palms to the Flaimingo was over $10 and a taxi from Mandalay Bay to the Sands was over $20.

The monorail is most effective when going from from one end to the other, like the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

The AmeriSuites, located off the Strip, across the street from the HardRock, offer a very nice room an affordable price (and there used to be a free shuttle to take you to the strip).

In my humble opinion, staying at the Mirage is overrated, particularly for the added expense. The rooms at the Mirage are only good, but not great. The rooms at the Venetian or Ceasar's are far superior and may be worth the extra cost.

The Mirage pool is also overrated. It is very, very crowded and the tropical vegetation is insufficient to make theb pool that worthwhile.

The Volcano view room was very worthwhile, however, and a is worth the extra $$. (Just make sure you don't forget, as I did the first night!)

Again, a room across the street may afford the same view without the added expense.
