Saturday , November 6 will possibly be the LAST time I will have a public showing of the world famous Ugh House bar, "The Enchanted Drinking Room". I am hosting this party in honor of James' visit to the SF Bay Area.
The party will start at 8pm.

Have a nice Tiki Day!

An UGH house viewing is one of my holy grails! Looks like a drive up I-5 is in my future....

T

Finally! I'll get to see the Ugh house!

M

And I just happen to find myself in the east bay that day. What a happy coincidence.

T

I am humbled and thankful that the last party at the Ugh House is being held in honor of my visit. Even better that Martiki, Tiki-Bot, and - can it be true? - Humuhumu may show up. Looking forward to seeing you all there. MAHALOS and MAURURUS TO BRUCE!

I'll be there too. It will be great to see all you folks again!

I'm definitely going to be there, I can't miss this. For those who don't know, aside from having a tiki bar, the UGH house also has a volcano. And a goat. A live goat. I've not seen the UGH house with my own eyes, only a few (disturbing) pictures, and I cannot let this opportunity slip me by. I will be there.

I won't be driving up until Saturday, though... pablus is going to be here in town and I must be on hand to run to the liquor store for the Mikes once pablus has drunk Tiki-Ti dry. (Also, my friend Michael Hussar has a show opening at La Luz that night just down the street... yet another jampacked Humu weekend!)

TikiVixen... since I'm driving up and I now have a trunk that's functional, I can finally pick up my artwork from Portland from you!

cleen and i are in! her aunt gave us their season tickets for the niner game the next day so we'll make it a weekend trip. we look forward to meeting james. smiley we need directions to you place can you pm me your address.

Obviously, wild horses, er, goats, couldn't keep me from making this party! Humu, your artwork is whiffling eagerly at the mere thought of finally seeing you and Bamboo Handbag again!!!

XOX tikivixen

T

Man o man, we've got an all-star line-up in place for this one... if I wasn't ALREADY coming 2500 miles for this party, I would now!

What a great week in the Bay Area! First the Hooptylau, then Trader Vic's San Francisco opening, JT's visit starting Thursday, and now a party at the Ugh house. It doesn't get much better than this ... and I leave for Spain in 2 weeks!

Anyway, I won't miss this party!

T

Cool. We're going to hit the SF Vic's on the way up and then see ya all at Bruce's place! mahalo Mr. Smiley.

H

Hey gang -- I'm bringing a couple people with me, one is a date (oooooooooh! a first date, at that -- please don't scare him off), and the other is a friend of mine from Seattle.

The Seattle friend's name is Adrian, he recently moved to SF, so he's eager to make new friends. He was involved in my mechanical bull and clowning escapades in Seattle, so he's a little off in the head just like us. He's a good guy, you'll like him. Since I'm going to be on a date, he'll be arriving separately, and may get there before I do--please do all you can to make him feel welcome until I get there!

This is Adrian on the right:

M

see you all Saturday night!

Count me in! I'll be seeing ya all tomorrow!!!

T

Thanks for the great night, Mr Smiley! I was exhausted and was planning to just stop in on my way home from work and ended up staying 3-1/2 hours! Such is the magic of the Ugh house. I didn't take many pics, but here's a few:

Guest of Honor James T. and Mark plunk out Quiet Village

Meta-photo-caching with Humuhumu

Party-goer and his dad

James T. horrifies us with Easter Island history in the fabulous Smiley underground lair

Mig mugs, Mark's mirth, while Humu wonders if a mustache suits her

Wow, I really need to check in @ TC more often.
A party at the infamous ugh house?
Sounds like a swell time was missed.
Waah!

SORRY, email me your email addresses, everyone-- in case I can do another -- Mr Smiley

M

Thanks everyone for coming. I counted at least ten people there who had never been to the pad before! I was a little unprepared because I had spent so much time pulling out junk and debris from the Ugh House's Encahanted Drinking Room. Boy, were my muscles sore on Sunday!! Thanks again for showing up and for the booze and snack!! --Mr. Smiley.
Ps- who in the Bay Area hasn't seen my pad and might be interrested??

cleen and i had a great time at the ugh house party! thanks, mrsmiley, for the invite and hospitality! we enjoyed talking to old friends as well as being able to place a face to familiar names within the boards.

tikibars, tikibot, otto, dangergirl, zebratiki, aquarj and mark from pixar(if i forgat anyone i apologize. i'll blame it on the punch!) it was a pleasure to meet you all and we look forward to chatting with you at future events!

to all that have not been to the ugh house:

we would highly recommend that you see it if the offer is out there. ther is NO other place like it on this planet!

M

Did I have a party last weekend?? I don't remember. No wonder the house was all sticky!!

Hey - I helped!

T

I had to leave Oakland and camp out at a 'non-tiki' friend's house for two days to recover from this one...

DangerGirl and I leave for Rapa Nui tomorrow!

I think that pic of me at the piano was not while we were plunking along on Quiet Village, but was actually during our less-remembered rendition of 'Shout at the Devil' (see my left hand in the pic).

I have thanked the whole Bay Area crew profusely (in person) all weekend, but here's a public shout-out to Jen, Bruce, Dean, Mig, Jeff, and Lisa for hospitality and/or rides, and to the rest of the posse (new friends and old) for showing up Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for good times. Dean wins the stamina award for being the only one to come out all four nights!

Every time I make it to the Bay Area, you guys come out and represent, big time. It is entirely swell to know that you guys are out here. True friends, the lot of ya'.

I have lots of pics, but no way to post them until I get home from Easter Is., so look for those in 10 days or so.

Mahalaos and maururus to everyone.

Hey - I helped!

You helped make it all sticky??? You weren't alone, everyone helped! :)

H

The evening was magic, and I suspect the memory of it will echo in my head for quite some time. More later. Thank you Mr. Smiley!

What!?!? Do you mean you still have a hangover??? :)

"horrifies"?

Ahhh... was I talking about how the town of Hanga Roa used to essentially be a concentration camp? I usually avoid that topic until I get too much rum in me...

Anthropology and alcohol are a dangerous combination.

"Happy Island Tales" coming soon - in about 10 days!

Sing along with Mr Smiley; "I've got a love hangover, I don't want to get over!..." tee hee

Have a nice Tiki Day!

Now I know where all the coconut monkeys retire to!

Thanks to MrSmiley for such a great gathering and hospitality. Your collection of tiki ( and everything else!) is amazing, surreal, and I don't think it's possible for a person to ever see it all.

It was great to meet so many TC members there, and bask in your love of all things tiki. I learned a lot about tiki from you all, and all sorts of other eclectic topics, such as maybe "It's Better Than It Looks" isn't the best name for a drink. :) and there is no such thing as "too much" tiki.

H

My pics are up... I didn't take very many this time (and actually I think most the ones on my camera were taken by other people), but here you go!

Mahalo to Mr.Smiley for the hospitality- what a fun night!

There's a volcano shaped smokestack above that fire!

M

Also extending my thanks to Mr. S for the fine hospitality. Great to see everyone at the UGH. As usual, the place is magic.

Mahalo!

PS- Zebra & hat: Agwa is made in Holland from a Bolivian recipe.

Z

Martiki-
Ha! Boy, was I wrong!
Good thing that the drunken-alcohol-reference-question phone call was never placed!
I will never doubt the king of the Novato Grotto again!

M

Good thing is right.

(We were going to call Dr. Z in the middle of the night to settle the bet. Sure seemed like a good idea at the time- funny what enough Mucous Mai Tai's will do to you.)

DZ

Almighty Martiki--
You know I am always at your beck and call to answer any late night "drunken-alcohol-reference-questions" - especially if they're going to help you win a bet!

ps - PM me your mailing address - my 6-month stewardship of the Tiki Oasis IV Zombie Contest Trophy is nearing an end...

martiki- you da man. you were right. this is why i stay away from the casinos! well until february anyway.

TW

Hey hey!

What a fun time! Took me a few days to recover, but was very much worth it. It was great seeing friends and meeting new friends too. And wow, what a collection of everything! Thanks Mr. Smiley! :)

Until next time!!
