I was looking for a picture of a Moai on the web and it struck me just how many Japanese sites are devoted to them.......

Woody,
How the hell did you find some of these moai pics? Some of the webpages are in nothing but Japanese characters!

Oh man! On the toys link - about 1/2 way down are those damn Chihuahua dogs with halos & angel wings! I will never forget seeing a giant sign showing animation of them all dancing the macarena!
Tokyo can be a disturbing place.....

Does a kleenex dispenser with the tissue emerging from the nostrils like paper snot count as "toys"? Doesn't it go more on the "decor" side?

I have noticed how us Brit's seemed very drawn to the Moai, about half of the Moai's I have carved now are in England.

I found a lot of these same images while researching Big Stone Head (my upcoming book on Easter Island). I used a program called NetScrape. You just enter some keywords and the program searches the internet for images that mtch your keywords. Somehow, even if the file names don't match the keywords, appropriate images will still be retrieved. Very cool shareware (for Mac OSX).

On a completely unrelated note, last night I dreamed that I was watching tv in a hotel room, and saw a music video from the 1960s filmed at Tiki Gardens. I was really mad when I woke up and realized that the video I 'saw' doesn't really exist.

Kinda like that song that Syd Barrett gave to me in a dream...

If only I could remember it.

Wow, I hadn't realised you'd emigrated! I did too, then came back.......

Yeah, I guess we love our Moai's here too. They sum up Tiki for me and the earliest mugs I bought were mainly Moai style. Glad to see us Brits buying your fine carvings. They are really top notch stuff.
