I just had the coolest thing happen. Well, I think it's cool anyway. An artist here at the video game company where I work was born & raised in Hawaii. He's a very good drummer and we got into some drum talk and it turns out his drum teacher as a teen was Harold Chang, ne of Arthur Lyman's band. They are still close friends and he's supposed to play my friend's wedding early next year in Honolulu. I just found this kinda cool. Here's an interview with Harold: http://www.elemental.org/~ecc/exo/exotica/changinterview.html Mahalo, Tiki-bot |

i run the arthur lyman tribute site at arthurlyman.com... if somehow you could get in touch with Chang to put something on the site, it would be good for posterity i think... |

The arthur lyman website is temporarily down whilst I move it... I just haven't been motivated lately to put it up again. But it will be up eventually when I have some free time and am in the mood |

i'm w/ talkie-tiki. clicking on http://www.ArthurLyman.com & getting the united left's webpage is NOT how i wanted to start my monday morning!!! i think - whatever your political affliation (or even lyman's political affliation for that matter) - that's a piss poor way to treat somebody's name! it's especially disrespectful considering your lyman site is, presumably, one honouring his life & achievements. please, kahukini, find the motivation to correct this. if only for the sake of a deceased man's name. |

well since you care so much about it and I like to make people happy, I'll point the name to tiki central until the site's back online. (it may take a day or 2 for the redirection to take effect) [ Edited by: kahukini on 2003-01-06 03:14 ] |

I feel like someone has reached into my heart & ripped a piece out. For some unknown reason I woke up early this morning sort of semi-dreaming... and my dream was like re-living a part of my life back in 1971. It was February of '71 and I was about 24 and in Hilo for a business conference. While there I met Arthur Lyman and within 24 hours was madly in love. His group was performing at the Naniloa Hotel & from the first night we met, we were together almost 24/7 for the next 2 weeks (I took vacation time after the meetings in order to stay with Arthur). I broke up with a long time boyfriend back home because I was so totally madly in love with Arthur. Arthur then came to see me in California numerous times but our jobs (I traveled all over the mainland 48 for a computer company) & distance & time apart eventually took its toll and we just drifted apart. But Arthur was the most incredible wonderful man, and it is so ironic & sad that I sat down & searched the 'net today hoping to get back in touch with him only to find that he died a year ago. I have all of my old 33 rpm albums of Arthur's here next to me now... and they are even more special because he actually held them in his hands at one time. If he could hear me, I would say, "Attah, I still love you. I will always cherish our memories in Hawaii & California. Rest in peace, my Sweetie." |

Arthur was remembered on last night's Grammy awards telecast. At the very end was an "In Memoriam" video segment which showed Arthur. |
