For SF bay area Incredibly Strange Music fans,

Otto sent word about this on his list too, but a friend asked me to post it here if it wasn't already...

Electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey ("The In Sound from Way Out," "Kaleidoscopic Vibrations: Spotlight on the Moog," "Moog Indigo," etc.) will be making a rare public appearance at Varnish Gallery, 77 Natoma, San Francisco, on Thursday, September 15th. The occasion is a record release party for his new CD "Circus of Life."

He will not be performing, but he will be signing CDs. The party runs from 7-10 p.m.

And here's Otto's notice...

On Thur, Sept 15, 7-10pm, RE/Search, Varnish Gallery, KFJC and Lisa Haugen will co-present a Record Release/Autograph Party with Jean-Jacques Perrey himself in person, all the way from France. M. Perrey is a senior citizen and we need not stress how rare this public event will be. Rabid fans of the music of Perrey and Kingsley should not miss this event! Jen and Kerri of Varnish Gallery, 77 Natoma St, San Francisco, were kind enough to offer their avant-garde (and beautiful) art space for this reception, and Liz Clark from KFJC has promised to aid in promotion. Please tell your Incredibly Strange Music collector-friends about this event -- not only is it rare, but it's also free! 77 Natoma St is off 2nd Street between Mission & Howard

Unfortunately we can't go, but it would indeed be quite an opportunity to meet a real pioneer!

T

What's his new CD like?

I haven't seen or heard "Circus of Life", so I can't speak for it. Hopefully it bucks the trend of other musical greats from a bygone era who come out with new releases missing the spark of their earlier works. Either way, it's pretty amazing he's coming all the way out from France - wonder if he's making any other stops in the US.

Cool and Strange Music mag did an interview with him a couple years ago, and he was still composing, and tickled that people were still interested in his music.

Thanks so much for the heads up on this Randy -- we're going to try to make it before the APE show at the Make Out Room.
