Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can say that I have officially crossed the caloric line into the murky waters of overweight-land. Usually it just gets worse from here. Even if you don't have a regular job or just freelance and find yourself visiting offices periodically, you find that the holiday grub is EVERYWHERE. It almost becomes the holiday 'monkey on your back'. This year though I am going to take a stab at NOT eating everything in sight and use this as an oppotunity to get back on Weight Watchers and try to lose ten or fifteen. Actually I wouldn't mind losing 20. Yeah, this is the worst time of year to do it, but I kind of see it as an adventure like Martin Sheen going through the jungle to find Brando in 'Apocalypse Now'. In fact you could say that figuratively speaking, in that film Brando represents the fat you and Sheen represents the slim you. The slim you is going through the jungles of Vietnam to slay the fat you. The soldiers that get killed on the boat ride up are all the times you fall off the wagon (or off the boat in this case), and binge and eat holiday cookies and booze and all that. The trick is, as Frederick Forest as 'Chef' screams "never get off the boat!! Never get off the boat!!" Will see how things have turned out by 1/1/2006. ....The horror...the horror. |

right you are donhonyc. I'm 6'-0 and my fightin' weight is between 165 & 175lbs. Slowly but surely I've been getting heavier every year since every since I turned 50. I try to chock it up to my blood pressure medication but let's face it...my metabolism is slowin' down, I eat whatever I feel like and I drink like a sailor on shore leave. I've compiled a list of things to help me get through holidays as follows:
