Hey Maui, pretty nice. Isn't that heavy brush background difficult to paint on? Just wondering, as I see that Shag uses that type of background a lot and I had been wondering if he didn't mask things off (does anyone know?). Did you? One thing that would (for me) add a bit to the work is to open her eyes. With her expressive eyebrows, (just me again) a penetrating stare would go well. I'd like to see what else you have done along those lines, and keep up the good work! |

Thanks! foamy - The heavy brush background actually isn't heavy at all. It's blue mixed with a bit of paint thinner and brushed onto the canvas with a 3" or 4" wide brush. It went on very lightly and the streaks were easy to create due to the thinness of the paint thus actually relatively easy to paint over. I started to paint the background differently but when I did what I did I thought it looked cool so I left it! I don't know how SHAG does his backgrounds but I would guess it's very similiar though he uses acrylic instead of oil. Her eyes are the one thing everyone comments about. Eyes are difficult and I'm pretty much a begginer painter and I like the painting so well that I was afraid I might screw it up or make her look to "anime" in style so I kept her with her eyes closed. Perhaps one day I will do a different revision of her and make her have a wonderful pair of big blue piercing eyes! I have only done one other tiki painting and here is link to that posting: |
