I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts about this. It was given to me by an older retired lady that used to work with my wife. She said she thought they got it in New Guinea and were told it was the front end of a dug out canoe.

That definitely looks like a canoe prow. New Guinea, or maybe from Borneo?

It's realy nice.

That is a lower Sepik river bird figure, the fact that it is not a seperate figure but in the prow makes it likely to be authentic, could be valuable...
