How can I use carvings on my palm trees?

Hi,
I have a large palm that I'd like to cover part of with a tiki. Has anyone else tried this before? There was mention of a palm with a soft center to hollow out. Would they be large enough to use? My trees are about 18" thick.

Thanks

Looks like you have a classic old Mexican Fan Palm.

The soft centered palm you're thinking of is the Queen Palm. Yours is good carving wood, just don't go too deep or you might kill the tree.

Have you carved before? If not, I would get some practice in, before attenping a live standing tree.

I was going to carve a tiki from another piece of palm and clamp it on somehow. Unless I could carve the live tree without hurting it.
