Wow! That "the Tikis" ad is very cool. Where is that ad from Polynesiac? A phone book? or...?? |

Here's a shot of an old ad for the Aku Aku at the Stardust Hotel from the Yellow Pages in a 1964 Telephone Book from Las Vegas, NV. I posted this a while back in a different thread. I picked up this old phone book a couple of years ago at my local swap meet. |

It's from a newspaper. A co-worker of mine went one of those nights and kept the ad in her scrapbook. |

Yeah!! good catch Swank! I never noticed that...unintentional forshadowing.... I'll have to ask her what year she went...it'd be freaky if this is from the summer before they closed! |

Nice thread!
Rejoice! The color photo that that image is based on will be in my new book. Sans the blow fish (the graphic artist must have added it to fill the empty space), but also without that sign blocking the view of the Tiki. It was taken on the stairs leading down from the first floor to the ground floor. |

September 9 fell on a Saturday in 1961, 1967, 1972 and 1978. What year did the Tikis close? |

Perhaps the first Mai Kai ad ever: There are a number of island theme places in this guide. The ad for "Two Fathoms Down" features a mermaid and hula gal. It was at 17 S. Atlantic Blvd and appears to have been an underwater restaurant/nite club...

As an addition to Zulumagoos great post, here is another Trader Vics advertisement for Denver. I hope Bigbro appreciates the quote of "Let allow her to go native after 6 PM" |
