Hawaiian Chieftan

The Hawaiian Chieftan and the Lady Washington are heading to Ventura from Marina Del Rey where I toured the ship. It is a Square Topsail Ketch, 106 feet, 10 sails, 4,050 feet and was built in Laihina, Maui. They have dockside tours and offer day cruises. They sail from their homeport in Grays Harbor, Washington and visit many west coast ports. The crew is in costume and are a blend of professional mariners and young sailors in training. These ships are now in San Pedro not Ventura like I posted before. They will be in Ventura and Oxnard after the new year.

I've seen them in Long Beach and Santa Barbara.

I think this is the ship which actually fires its cannons.

Regardless, it is majestic.
