Tech question for computer types

I recently got an LCD monitor with my new PC, after many years of a CRT. I notice now, however, that all of my Windows media video files and QuickTime movies are playing back very very darkly. When I adjust the brightness in Media Player, it helps, but it screws up the contrast. Is there some setting somewhere that will help with this? Is this a common problem? Please help- I can't watch my dalek porn collection anymore.

Thanks everyone.

Martin, download the video drivers from the manufacturer's website. Now make me a drink

Cheers for that, Al, but it didn't work. :(

Any other ideas?

YES,
Take a black chicken to a fork in the road at midnight and cut said chicken in half under a full moon. The downside to this method is you loose your sole to the devil, but, your resolution will be kickin'. How old is your computer? How big is your chip? Is your graphics card "onboard"? Do you have a plug in graphics card?
Let me know and we will solve this small problem.
Al

Martin,
Have you tried hooking up any other type of monitor, like your old crt, to see how it looks as well in comparison? Since you say the computer and LCD monitor are new, sometimes you can get a bad video card, etc., or even a bad monitor, in the mix.

Oh- cheers Bill- actually I figured it out with a little more noodling. Plus chicken blood.
