OT - Spaghetti Western music

Did a search, could not find anything so...

The link here is pretty tenuous, but Ive grown a liking for Spaghetti Western themed music from exotica and surf - go figure.

Got the Morricone stuff, and a nice effort from an outfit called "Slim Westerns".

Anything else anyone can recommend?

You'll dig a CD by the Hellbenders titled. "Today We Kill... Tomorrow We Die". Surf band covering Spaghetti Western themes and some originals.

off the top of my head, the 50 guitars of Tommy Garrett has a great muzak/loungy album of speg. western themes called "Western Movie Themes and Songs" great renditions. It's available on itunes, if you're into downloading stuff and don't want to search out the record. This one is pretty popular, so it may be on CD too.

Also the Huntington Cads (one of shags bands) has an EP of westernish surf/guitar songs called "Big Guitars Western Style EP" with covers and orignals. It is OOP and can be a bit difficult to find, but well worth it!

A few recommendations:

Strangers 1800 -- An offshoot project from the band Deadbolt. They did one EP called "When Men were Men and the Sheep were Scared." It's fun and available on Amazon.

Chingon - For those who like their spaghetti with a little hot sauce, this is a group headed by film director Robert Rodriguez. Here's the web site: http://www.chingonmusic.com/

For a really good "Best of" collection of Ennio Morricone, I'd recommend the CD: "A Fistful Of Film Music: The Ennio Morricone Anthology." This may be out of print now, but your local library may have it.

Here's a great record:

Leroy Holmes' "Once Upon a Time in the West" on United Artists. His version of "Days of Anger" is worth the price of admission. Solid mix of wordless vocals and spag western themes.

Blue Man Group's "TV Song" is an supremely cool mix of surf guitar and epic western motifs.

And, although it's not a "Spaghetti Western", I can highly recommend Jerry Goldsmith's scores for "Our Man Flint" and "In Like Flint" for your library (crank-up "You're a Foolish Man, Mr. Flint", OMF, for some adventure-guitar & tropical percussion ecstacy... Oooo.)

(ps: Morrecone's "The Ecstasy of Gold" is the most sublime bit of Spaghetti Western music I can think of; I dream of sitting in on the recording session of that, playing French horn -- can anybody guess which four notes? And Ennio's rare (and all too brief) title music from "The Men from Shiloh" hits the same synapses. Wow.)

(pps: Also think you might very much dig the original "Barbarella" soundtrack, and when you say you have the Morrecone stuff, do you you mean you have "Two Mules for Sister Sara" and "Duck, You Sucker"? Dig 'em.)

The Huntington Cads version of "The Vice of Killing" on the
"Big Guitars western style" 45 is better than the orginal, and gives me goose bumps.

An issue with many SW soundtrack albums are that they often contain too much "suspense music" which is great in the movies but could be a bit tiresome to listen to on the hi-fi. So with that in mind, here are some great comps that in general goes for the more melodic parts of the scores:

Thanks all for the excellent information, I'm always impressed by the level of knowledge on this board. Que Pasta by Death Valley is excellent, also the soundtrack to the LucasArts computer game Outlaws is worth a listen for a few gems.

I am now depleting my funds at a great rate of knots!
