Sabu looking for roommates - Atomic Ranch house in Los Angeles.

Pages: 1 16 replies

As many of you already know, Tikibelle and I went through a divorce this past year. It was tough to go through but we're on the other side now and we've remained friends. I apologize for being so flaky over the past year and being inconsistent answering emails, etc. The divorce was taking most of my attention and thoughts for a long time. I'll try hard to make it up to you.

Now that it's over, I'm looking for roommates again to share my 3-bedroom house in Carson, CA. I'll be advertising locally, and at Cal State Dominguez & Harbor College as well, but I thought I'd first offer the rooms to TC folks and their acquaintances who might better appreciate living in a classic 1950s ranch-style with a fully-functioning tiki bar and mid-century modern decor.

Besides the tiki room, here are some of the other things going for it:

  • Large backyard and patio for throwing barbecues and parties
  • Working fireplace that gets used a lot in the winter
  • In-house wireless DSL network
  • A large garage with some storage space left
  • Located close to the juncture of the 405 and 110 freeways (otherwise known to locals as the San Diego and Harbor freeways)
  • On a quiet street of similar ranch-style houses built in 1950, lined with jacaranda trees.
  • Furnished or unfurnished rooms available.
  • Within 30 minutes of the beach, Tiki Ti, Sam's Seafood, Purple Orchid, Trader Vics, The Warehouse, & Tony's On The Pier.
  • Within 45 minutes of Damon's & the Tonga Hut.
  • Within 2 hours of all the tiki that San Diego has to offer.

I've lived with both male and female roommates before and get along equally well with either. I've got a good-sized bedroom with a large closet that shares a bathroom for $600 a month, and a Master Bedroom with its own bathroom and walk-in closet available for $800 a month. If you are interested or know anyone else who may be interested, please leave me a PM and we'll talk. Your responsibilities would include helping me throw a few large tiki cocktail parties each year. Tough work, I know, but rewarding.

Also, if you have any ideas of other places I should be advertising for roommates interested in a mid-century modern ranch-style house in Southern Cal, please let me know.

Thanks,

Sabu

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see em
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer farmer
Put away that d.d.t. now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Sabu I had no idea, I am sorry I hope everything is ok between you two. Best of luck. Hope you find great roommates, your house is great. :)

Sabu, you forgot less than 15 minutes from King's Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant's fabulous Hawaiian French Toast. Mmmmm, Hawaiian French Toast.

Shoot! I don't need a room, but helping out with tiki cocktail parties sound like a good time! Let me pack up my shaker and tools! What's the address again? :)

Ok Josh, you're the first person I'm inviting to the next party. You sound enthusiastic.

Sabu

I can see you and Bong living together!
Now that would make a reality show.
We would obviously have to add some more characters though.

(Best to ya SaBooby! :) )

Sabu

Awesome!
I am, if nothing else, enthusiastic! Especially about cocktails!

Sabu forgot to add that you'd get to go garage sale-ing with us every Saturday!

(but I still claim the front seat!)

Will there be booze afterwards?

Only afterward? Unga, you're disappointing me...

Ben already sang that one. It was a big hit a few years back. The story goes, (during the first recording, on hittng some high notes), he blew out a nut. Fortunately for his fans, subsequent recordings (and a little gentle persuasion) showed Ben was truly dedicated. This was his best work. Let's give Ben a big round of applause.

I realize this post is a month old, but it brought back some great memories. I'm a California (Los Angeles, San Diego) transplant in Maine. Redondo Beach, Torrance, Carson, Gardena, Hermosa, Manhattan - and Hollywood (naturally) are all old stomping grounds. I remember the Hawaiian Bakery, isn't that on Western Ave (been here 8 years now, and some specifics escape me)?

I grew up going to Tony's on the Pier with my parents. Every special occasion! It was such a gas to look at all the decor. This was all through the 60s and 70s. As a kid to me, it was reminiscent of The Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland. :)

If you're having a cocktail party, I'm there! Yeah, it'd be an expensive little jaunt, but what the heck, right??
