Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
the skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour, a three hour tour………
The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the Minnow would be lost; the Minnow would be lost.
The ship took ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
with Gilligan, the Skipper too,
the Millionaire, and his Wife,
the Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

& after the show...

So this is the tale of our castaways,
they're here for a long, long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his skipper too,
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable,
in the tropic island nest.
No phones, no lights, no motor cars,
not a single luxury.
Like Robinson Crusoe,
it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friend,
you're sure to get a smile.

I loved Gilligan's Island as a kid. Never understood how the professor and Mary Ann got short changed the first season, though ("and the rest"?!--what's that all about!)
Anyway, Godspeed, George.....

The Howells sure managed their share of luxury... always sipping on drinks...

And there was a later episode where a car was fashioned out of bamboo...

I think as tiki folk we could learn a lot from Gilligan's Island... if it could be created from bamboo and palm they made it on the Island!

OK and now the question of the century - Who was hotter (and why) Mary Ann or Ginger?

I was waiting for that question...

• Mary Ann clear hands down winner. She looks good, is low maintenance, and she can cook up those cream pies.

2. Who would you rather have show up to your hotel room with a bottle of [insert favourite booze here]?

• Ginger. One night only. But what a night it would be....

Does anybody remember the theme song they used for the original (unaired) GI pilot? It was called "Tourist Boat", a truly awful calypsoeque monstrosity with some of the lamest lyrics I've ever heard (it referred to Mrs. Howell as Mrs. Millionaire). I'll see if I can track down an mp3 of it somewhere...

I was kind of partial to the Gilligan's Island theme set to the music of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven"--the artist was listed as Jonas Grumby (the Skipper's real name). It was always a favorite on the Doctor Demento show.

Thanks Vixen, but I didn't get the email. I'll check out the website, though - I want to find out what's up with the guy who's obsessed with that awful song...
