Tikiroom.com domain name issues

Pages: 1 24 replies

Hi,

I let the domain name renewal slip on Tikiroom.com. in the next 24 to 48 hours, tiki central may disappear for you.

This disappearance is temporary. Tikiroom.com will be fine again soon.

If this happens to you, use the following URL:

http://tikiroom.dreamhosters.com

It might not work perfectly, but it should do the trick until tikicentral.com is back online.

Please spread the word to anyone you know who tells you they can't access Tiki central.

Mahalo!

Good stuff Lemoore!

Thanks for the info Hanford. Can't live without my TC.

This is known as the Mai Kai Virus.

Beware, for it may happen to each and every one who was at Hukilau at any moment.

Limply drifting into a state of utopia and letting your responsibilities lapse? You've got the Mai Kai Virus.
(And it feels so gooooooood.)

Renewal slip... have any Tomatoes lately?

What are you doing to me Hanford, I thought I was going to kill myself early this morning.

Oooooopss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Figured that was what happened...been there/done that. :) I still got in the backdoor though...by clicking on the word Tiki Room, then slipped in through some menu options. Sure don't want to loose that TC name...for something like PinkPuPuPoodle. :D

Little late for an April Fools joke ain't it?

Glad you're back up with the domain, today at work I feared the worst after issuing a 'whois' on the domain.

To be honest, since I recently found out that the tiki god "ubuntu" runs the internets, I was sure this would only be a matter of time :drink:

someone forget to use the 'search' feature?

Thought I was going to need an intervention this morning!

If you found the brief loss of Tiki Central as depressing as I did then it's time to join the Grand Members Club and send Hanford some money. I've emailed him to find out the details on the renewal. It's so worth supporting this site, we need it. Thanks Hanford, Wendy

Wendy, that was my immediate thought too... what if TC went belly up for lack of funding? I swore that if it came back up I would become a Grand Member :tiki:

Good point Wendy...it is important to support the community that supports us. I think it is cheaper than a Psychiatrist too. :D

Hi all,

Sorry for the scare. It was not a money issue, it was a time & notification issue. But I always appreciate people who choose to become Grand Members. Like it or not, money aways helps.

If you're renewing for Grand Membership, please note that the new series of stars has not be rolled out. Please don't renew until I announce renewals, if you want to want save me and you some headaches later on.

New members and those who are not 4 year Grand Members already can join or renew without any system problems.

Mahalo for your support!

I was able to get access at http://www.tikicentral.org
that always seems to work.

well the nature of domain names is that when the record changes, it needs to propagate out across the internet to all the different name servers out there ... which can take up to 48 hours.

Depending on how you access the Internet, you might have been accessing the old record (tiki central) or the newer one ( siteDoesNotExist.com or whatever it was ). Now that I fixed it, the fix needs to roll out across the Internet.

so it's kind of a ripple effect, with different people seeing different things.

Pictures parked on TC are dead. Will that clear up as the DNS resolves too?

Thanks for the info on becoming a Grand Member. I'd been wondering how to contribute to the site financially and didn't realize that was how to do it. I just signed up as a GM.

Having seen the matter of GM renewals come up before, the responses I've seen have always been to hang tight; when Hanford gets around to doing renewals he'll hit you up with a notice. But since my anniversary date is Beltane (May 1) and I have yet to hear anything, maybe I should inquire.

Hey Hanford, you might check the DNS. It seems maybe http://www.tikicentral.com is fine, but I am not sure is https://tikicentral.com is set up. Anybody else having that issue or is it another lag? It is an issue with some posts' images.

AFAIK the www directives on my server didn't change; Network solutions just changed the naming servers to point to their "expired" page.

And, low and behold, the "your domain name is about to expire" email hit me today. It wasn't even back dated.

Thanks Network Solutions!!!

("Solutions" implies there will be problems)

Hopefully everyone can access TC through http://www.tikicentral.com again. Switch back to using that and stop using the tikiroom.dreamhosters.com URL, if you can. Sorry for the slip up!

Smooth move Nerdlax!
