Sin City has beckoned us for a very long time... (I hear the sinner Hula Hula calling) and we finally broke down and bought a place there! It's a total fixer-upper, but only from neglect, not bad HomeDepotizing. It is an original owner 1957 little weeping morter brick ranch house. Futura Girl posted pictures, etc. here: http://www.lottaliving.com/elranchito We named it "El Ranchito" after the famous 1st Strip Casino "El Rancho" (Wayne McAllister, 1941) only 1/2 mile away. We're gonna do it up all 1950s style - and of course there will have to be some kind of tiki-ness involved! If there is anyone willing to be brave enough to withstand the Mid July heat of Vegas... we'll supply swanky tunes, pizzas, sodas, paint and brushes, central a.c., and a place on the floor to crash. So bring your swimsuit, airmattress and sleeping bag and maybe we'll see you there?EDITED: [ Edited by: C.B. Howlie on 2003-06-16 17:19 ] |

Nice find! I was looking at your wonderful landscaping plan and I think that tall skinny plant is an Ocotillo. It has beautiful red blooms this time of year. |

nope - not moving - just a vacation/friend crash pad/maybe a rental? kind of thing... thanks jab for the ocotillo tip! that's what it is. the windmill is in tribute to the el rancho hotel. http://gaming.unlv.edu/ElRanchoVegas/ my pal chris keeps telling me for a real tribute we should put the windmill on the roof! For those in the know... this means a must-see late night visit on Saturday, July 5th to see Jerry Tiffe at Capozolli's Jerry is also playing Also, a new tradition on schedule is a visit to the best new act to hit Vegas in 30 years! Vargas at Bally's Wednesday - Sunday 6:00pm to 10:00pm http://www.avargas.com Is anyone familiar with lounge performers Freddy Bell or Treniers? Or know if Sam Butera is still playing around? |

I was listening to the jazz station (88.1 FM) yesterday and they mentioned that Sam Butera is playing at one of the Southern California casinos in a few weeks. Now I've gotta go look up the particulars. I made a special trip to Vegas about 4 years ago just to see him play at Orleans. He was amazing! |

Capozolli's is the best Italian restaurant I've been to on the West Coast-food and service come closest to the ones in my old home-Brooklyn (even though our waiter was from da Bronx!) And how can you pass up a place with resident glamorous 'vintage' showgirls as patrons! |

Last call for Vegas fun... If you decide at the last minute to head to Vegas for the weekend... all are welcome... Directions to El Ranchito: There will be a Tiki Central Online Connection available on site :) C.B. will be heading back right away, but I'll be in town from July 3rd through the 10th or so... |
