Who's got the #1 mug or 1 of 1 mugs

Pages: 1 14 replies

K

Do you treasure mugs more since you might have a very low number of a limited edition run. If so what is your lowest # on the mug you like the most.
Is it also harder for you too let one go since you have a low number or are you just happy to have the mug and do not care about the number on the mug.

For example who just got the #1 mug:
MunkTiki Zombie Beachcomer Oasis Event Mug
Crazy Al Hoo Doo the Oasis Voodoo
Tiki Diablo Skull Trader

S

As far as the Hukilau mugs, Kiliki and I have the number 1 and 2 mugs. I was under the impression that Holden had most of the #1 mugs he has produced, or they are owned by the artists, but I can't confirm that.

looks like kate scored the #1 tiki oasis mug! i was first in line for c'al's orangutan skull, but got #5. i have a few munktiki #1's or one offs here: (1). i like the low numbers because the mold is newer and gives better details on alot of mugs. i really dig the sculpted munk-es by miles (2) kustomas by paul (3) and the dva mugs (4) because each is unique. my most cherished pieces are one of a kinds by peopo i consider good friends like: paul and miles (5), tiki tony (6) and gecko (7) and special gifts like hiphip's bird of paradise from kelly (8), poptiki kingstiedye volcano from jonesEy (9), tumbuna bullet orange from cass (10), moko skull from tiki tony (11) basement boiler proto from dave (12), and vicious from ben (13).
i wish i knew how to make the links shorter:

The closest I've come is a couple of #2's; the Munktiki Wanaga and Bowl (one of my favorites) and Tiki Farm's LE Trader Vic's Kava Bowl (#12/50 shown.)

With respect to the number of the edition I'd echo Bullet's observation regarding the relative quality of the earlier casts. The other aspect I look at is the variations in the glaze work from piece to piece. If given the opportunity to select among the available pieces in an edition I'd take a higher numbered piece over #1 if I find the overall effect of cast and glaze more appealing. Generally, I don't value a piece based on its edition number.

Thanks Swanky for the input about Hukilau Mugs.

Thanks Bullet for chiming in. Its great that you left links to ooga mooga so I could take a look at the pics of the mugs.

Yes, I did see that Tiki-Kate got #1 mug for the Munktiki Oasis Mug.

I need to get me one of those Munktiki Mugs as well since I was not able to attend this event. I am still looking for a Munktiki Tiki Oasis 6 mug as well. On those mugs I would not care which # I would get as long as I got one.

K

Also when Munktiki does an edition of 300 do they use more than one mold?
Maybe we can get Paul or Stuckie to chime in on that issue.

i agree with lol that the # is not as important as how much you like the way a particular mugs looks.

i would think they must have several, as there seems to be no drop-off in quality.
p.s. sorry kbg, i wish i could help ya out with the oasis mugs you're looking for.

You'd have to have a pretty amazing mold to pull out 300. I would guess at least 3 molds, but most likely 6 if they have set any deadline for themselves. They are the pros!

To the original question, I don't have many #1's, though I did stumble across a couple by accident at Oasis. I picked up the purplishpink skull by Bosko and it just happened to be #1. Truus said they don't pay attention to where the numbers are, so that's how it happened. I also got the #1 Lyman Ap by Gecko which I picked up because I liked the color better than the others. Lucky!

hey falin, great talking to you and rachel at oasis. that's funny about getting bosko's purple skull #1, cuz they started selling those at last year's oasis. let's see your lyman on ooga-mooga.

That a great score on the Gecko Mug. How many artist proofs were there and are there any left. How can I obtain one of them?

I have only one mug that is #1 and that is the Brown Simian by Munktiki.
Wish I had more number 1's but most of the time I just appreciate getting one in the limited run edition.

kbgator, were you able to keep an Oasis Munktiki beachcomber 08 mug. I know most years in the past you are always asking around

it's a series of 25, just like da augie mug. i'd shoot an e-mail to gecko. i'm pretty sure he didn't have all 25 at oasis. he also is doing custom paint lymans. hiphipahula has one on o-m. i saw it in person and it's a beauty!

this one is mine.

There were, maybe, a dozen of them at his table on Sunday afternoon. He had a heck of a fire sale that afternoon but I didn't see any discounts on the Lyman's.

TeaKEY, got one already lined up from this year. But I am still looking for one from Tiki Oasis 6.

LOL Tiki and Bullet: I will try and send an email and see what happens. Thanks for the info.

Great subject. I covet #1s and artists proofs, but don't have many.
I have the #1 Tiki Farm BarTiki Mug. I also have a 1 of a kind test glaze that was done prior to a sculpt change, there is nothing else like this one in the whole world!
I have the #1 Gecko Pineapple Po'o edition of 100 and the #1 Artist Proof of the same mug.
I also have the #1 Fatutu by Tiki Tony - One of my all time fav's.
I have several Gecko 1 of a kinds including glaze samples of the Pineapple Po'o, 2 'kissed by pele' versions and a tattoo'd version that just came in the mail yesterday.
