Anyone worked with Cottonwood?

Hey guys, I,m getting some large pieces of arizona cottonwood soon
(5 or 6 ft. x 12-18") and wondered if anyone has done anything from it.
I know a native american (Navajo) here in Tucson that does Nice Kachinas out of it. He sez it's the proper wood for Kachinas. Double Mana!

I've used a small amount of cottonwood to carve a woodspirit. Not sure if there is more than one kind of cottonwood or not but the one I used did not like being cut across the grain... no matter how sharp your tool was.You just could not get a nice clean cut. With the grain it was great. Also it can be brittle.
