Does anyone know of an oceanic symbol that carries the meaning for safe passage over water? I know there are carved fish hook from the Maori. Any others? |

May your canoe be swift and your destination all that you hoped. But you were probably asking for a icon more than anything else....... |

Another prow piece from the Marquesas Islands. The figure has each foot set on a skull. This design kinda looks sci-fi. |

The opening narrative from the film of James Michener's "Hawaii" contains this passage -- "of Mano-the-Shark, who guided his children through secret pathways of the sea, when they were lost." -- aiding the Navigators of Bora Bora during their voyage of discovery to the Hawaiian Islands. Hope this may be useful. SOK [ Edited by: Son-of-Kelbo 2009-02-02 17:29 ] |
