Welcome to TC Hula Lula! She's gorgeous! Self portrait? Is that ceramic clay? What's the plan? Inquiring minds need details :)

Very nice.
She's kinda got a Betty Boop thing goin' there.

Cute.

HL

Thanks for the welcome MadDogMike!
Thanks Ungabunga and Grog!
So glad you like it
I wish it was a self portrait, although
I would have a very large head.

I must have had Betty Boop in my subconscious
when I made her!

It's ceramic clay, the plan is to fire and glaze it
hopefully she will survive the firing.

really looking forward to seeing this fired, will keep my hands crossed it makes it outa the kiln. You are in pasadena, are you firing at the college there?

GT

Very cool! I like it a lot, Very nice sculpt!

Very nice! Welcome aboard & keep the pics coming.

Welcome! :)

This is off to a great start. The shapes are wonderful.
The hair and flower details look terrific.
I love her button nose and puckered lips.

I look forward to seeing it when it's completed.

Thanks so much, everyone!

Ocea Otica, I fire my stuff at Ceramics Castle
in Burbank. They are friendly and really careful with firing.

Aloha Hula Lula,
So glad you are starting to post.
She's a beauty! Great pose and fun vintage
style. Hurry up and fire it, glaze it, and
post it!
Mahalo!
Iokona

Right on Hula lula!
very sweet!
you gonna glaze her?

HL

Thanks Iokona!

Thanks Little Lost Tiki!
Yes! I'll be glazing her today and
will be posting the finished piece this week.

WELCOME!

Your sculpture is phenomenal, I can't wait to see what else you come up with. Top notch work, at least.

HL

Hello!
Had a great time at Kona yesterday.
The art was amazing!!

Thanks Rob! I really appreciate your comments.

Here is the finished hula girl.
I'm still learning how to do glazing
The details came out a little faint so I darkened
them with enamel. Hope you like!

Beeeautiful!! Very nice!!

I love how the glaze/enamel paint job came out.

You should make some wall pockets like this. A pair of them together would look great right in my hallway :)

Really great to have seen this and I will keep my eye out to see what else you come up with.

I just saw the picture Iokona Ki'i posted on LLT's thread - this sculpture is huge! How tall is it?

too cute!
she turned out adorable!
you should make a mold of her
so everyone can have one!
hey! i met you kids at KONA!
:)

RH

Holy crap!

I pay a lot of attention to whether or not the style of a piece is unified, seems appropriate to the material, is derivative, or has the "spark" of artistry... and I think your hula girl is PERFECT.

I'm not an expert or anything like it, just a serious observer, but I am completely blown away.

Here is a Japanese dragon I've been working on that just
got fired, I know it's not
tiki, hope that's ok.

Babalu- Thanks for the YouTube link!
Oh! that was soooo cute! I just love Betty Boop!,
I guess you can tell :)

Yay, the hula girl turned out great!
Makes me happy every time I see it!
I agree with LLT, you should make a mold
of it.

The dragon is amazing! Can't wait to see it completed!
It's not tiki, but I see a tiki mask behind the dragon, so you're ok.
