In no particular order...
Mai Kai Gents and King Kukulele also come to mind, but strictly speaking I don't think that they would be classified as Exotica. [ Edited by: LOL Tiki 2009-03-17 13:33 ] |

Martini Kings. I wandered away from tiki/exotica for quite a few years, but their sounds are one of the factors that drew me back in! You just put one of their cd's on, and all is right. |

Since we are going way off topic and including non-exotica bands, please don't fall all over yourselves in mentioning the hula girls and thesmoking menehunes! I realize we are virtually invisible to most tiki centralites, but still......the million or so gigs we have done at every major event and tiki venue with the exception of tiki oasis should get us some mention in this thread...you would think? |

Originally, MySpace had a feature allowing artists to allow their music to be downloaded for free. If an artist did not want their songs to be downloaded, they simply checked a box. That has changed in the last year or so. No songs can be downloaded for free any longer--as far as I know; I could be wrong. However, I have been told by musicians when looking for new material, "Hey, download them off my MySpace page." Which I haven't figured out how to do off the new players. So when a band tells me to check out their MySpace, great, I can hear the tunes, but I can't PLAY them. As a result, I cannot play the Smokin' Girls or the Hula Menahunes on my podcast, thereby exposing them to new listeners and/or potential buyers of their product. Hence my question. |

You have to pay to download songs from myspace? That's nuts! I had no idea. I wonder who gets the money, because it certainly is not me. I am sure Lucky Designs can email you an Mp3 or whatever, and i can always mail you a Smoking Menehunes Cd. Problem is, neither band is exotica. In fact, the smoking menehunes is almost exactly the same style as the sweet hollywaiians or mai kai gents. Its Hapa Haole music. |

Check out the "Trip Tease" album by the SF group Tipsy - it is exotica/lounge pop at its psychedelic best and is great listening when you're rolling on the floor after too many Zombies. |

Anybody know what's up with Don Tiki? Their website and My Space page haven't been updated in over a year, and no gigs since that European festival last summer. Do they still exist as a group? |
