The top third is three layers of cake. The bottom two-thirds was styrofoam. All except the top were covered in chocolate. |

looks like rolled fondant with fondant cut outs. from a blog i read: Look Cupcake participated in a wedding show on board the Skansonia yesterday. It was fantastic. If you're getting married in the Seattle area, you should check the boat out. It's beautiful and the staff there is wonderful! For months I've had an idea rolling around my head for a display cake based on a tiki tattoo design. The Skansonia wedding show was the perfect excuse to create it. So, create it I did and I was THRILLED with the design. Until (dun, dun, DUUUN...) it had a little accident. The cake took a tumble. Ruined. Here's a picture of the scratch & dent Tiki cake. Sniffle |

I have to make a tiki cake for a friend's luau/wedding party next month so I was trying to get inspired. It would take too long to update with pics so I am including all the links of the following tiki cakes I found on Flickr. Check them out . some of them are pretty impressive http://www.flickr.com/photos/24367079@N04/2703892565/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/ambermckenney/2721096296/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/luciferousl/292539831/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/spellboundcakes/2839868350/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sweetmaker/2793759670/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/25465594@N07/2713197519/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/cakelava/2732913742/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/oanababy/2485891550/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/melonade/296219179/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9735767@N08/1491335015/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/markandblythe/2776881458/ [ Edited by: leleliz 2009-03-30 18:03 ] [ Edited by: leleliz 2009-03-30 18:06 ] |

WOW!!! I really like the one with the torches. The mugs were pretty cool as well. Most of the others seemed to be inspired by the plastic outdoor patio tiki string light sets... |

Yeah even though they were done with a nod to the plastic Party City tikis I have to say that maybe in a brown/tan color scheme that they would look a lot less "Made In China" and more traditional. Regardless it made me hungry for cake! |
