Hi folks,

I'm interested in all those other Tiki venturers out there who decorate their traveling rigs in the TIKI theme or enjoy the creativity that's out there.

I've seen posts here and there, some under travel, others under items for sale, and thought it was time for a topic under General Tiki.

I'd like to see pictures when Tiki and Travel Trailer collide (aesthetically collide, please spare us the auto insurance claim photos).

If you can take the time to add more than a link to the pictures, such as a teaser picture, that would be great. (See how to add images to your post) So that even if the link breaks we maintain at least the thumbnails when the other sites change.

This can include any thing that would loosely be defined as a recreational vehicle or an RV themed trailer park.

Here are some past posts on the topic:

Since I'm working on a Tiki themed travel trailer, I thought I'd post the progress.

It is a 1967 Timberline Lowlander, built by Paul Kiper in Portland, Oregon.
It is similar to a 1966-1968 Aristocrat Lo-Liner.

Right now it is very comfortable, sporting many new materials on the walls, new vinyl flooring, upholstery, new mattress and an assortment of mugs.

Since it is not "over the top yet" and some things need refining, I will post pictures as it evolves.

Here are some updated pictures:

Sam loves to come over for a "Cocoa-tail" when we go camping.
Notice that the hibiscus matches her yellow ducky jammies, very stylish.

The Tiki-Lander spotted while doing a donut and dim sum camping trip (camping rates sure are expensive here, and they only take quarters at the iron ranger). This was our base camp before hiking into the urban wilderness and scouting the ancient Tradr Sam's.

The Tiki-Lander stops by its favorite spot in Santa Cruz (mmmm sweet potatoe fries and rum)

Yours is coming together nicely...love the mug railing and the fabric on the seats. Your Hawaiian quilt is beautiful too. Keep up the great work and post more pics. :)

Lucy Diamond,

Great addition to this thread, thanks!

There is something about the Airstream that lends itself so willingly to the modern Tiki lounge look. It's as if Wally Byam was thinking WWSD?* when he designed the Airstream.

That's a beauty of a rig (a palace) and the details are great.
I love that barkcloth curtain pattern and the thatched umbrella and table skirt.

I've been trying to figure out how to bring the actual Tiki statues along for the ride, perhaps even permanent pole mounts for the solar tiki torches for quick setup and bumper brackets to hold the tiki carvings while under way.

Nice scorpion bowl by the way, and from the other bottles and cups laid out it is clear you take care of your guests!

A rolling hukilau!

It sold for $3,000.00
Maybe you'll catch it traveling the wild road on new adventures.
I don't have any connection to this seller, just documenting the listing before the auction sloughs the images after 60 days.

Nice work inside and out.

The listing by eBay member mdsngr1 item # 170154820083 stated the following:

That is a rig to roll in!
I'm scheming on my tiki-themed exterior canopy now.
Nice conversion of the rig!
Great use of lauhala throughout, and a proud display of Bosko.
Mmmmm leopard print mmmmmmm, reclaim that trailer-trash loungy feel in a post-modern way!
Thanks for the inspirational photos, glad to see your winter hibernation has been good.

Coruscate,

I too was inspired by your work on the Tiki Lander as well as the many other posts that you Incorporated into this thread.
Thanks for all of the ideas.
How did you make the Tiki Lander graphics for the outside of your trailer?
Are those custom stickers?
I am starting to add some tiki style to the exterior of my rig as well.
Look forward to seeing your canopy work.
I am taking the Mo-Tiki out on the road for Spring Break, should be fun!
Plan to drive her down to Tiki Oasis this year as well.

Dustycajun,

I've got a backlog of pictures I need to dig out and post of other rigs I've encountered, but your stuff adds so much to the good ideas list.

I also made a set of custom plates to match the trailer's graphics and to go with the bamboo handled silverware and monkeypod goblets that you might like to consider for your mobile-tiki.

For the graphics, I've had great luck turning things in to Adobe Illustrator files and sending them to this company http://graphxonline.com/ to create.

If you need help, give me a holler.

Some of the stickers are large SHAG stickers I bought at PosterPOP, but the text is all custom.

FYI, there are endless ready made quality Hawaiian Lei and jungle foilage desgins that go the full lenth of your rig that are cheaper to buy already made if interested.

I'm still on the fence about Tiki Oasis, but if I do I'll make sure we have a trailer trash get together---looking forward to seeing pictures of Mo-Tiki out in the wild!

Cheers!

Two rigs in a row!
Nice!
Keep those pictures coming.

I loved your camper overhaul and I'm sure the Vontiki land yacht will be deluxe.

I've kept my original 60's camper hardware, consciously saying no to the bamboo drawer pulls, but now after seeing Dustycajun's use of bamboo door and drawer pulls I'm completely sold on that look.

I'm hoping I can modify the Fred the Aku Moai busts into LP gas tank covers.

I keep wondering if the Pegasus Bamboo faucet would stay off when driving, that would look cool in all our rigs.

Also, see my earlier post about custom, professional quality lettering or graphics for a reasonable price.

By the way, your RV post was just in time.

My wife looked over my shoulder and saw what I was typing and said
"you mean we aren't the only people with a Tiki-Trailer?"

I scrolled up over all the old posts in this thread, and said "no honey, there are more" (followed by maniacal muhwahaahahaaa laugh and in my worst evil scientist monologue voice "there are leeeeegions of them, lurking, waiting for their call to explore the open road, like cultural ambulances with rum."

I'm not sure what she was thinking after that.....

Either it's "Hmmm, my hubby isn't as goofy an oddball as I thought, maybe I will go to the Tonga Room with him next week."

Or it's "Hmmm, apparently my hubby has every bit as much the underbelly of taste that I thought and I'm not sure I like the company he's keeping."

Eventually we'll have to have a Tiki-Trailer caravan and converge in one spot for a camper hukilau weekend, Tiki-Tahoe anyone?

Either way, looking forward to seeing more posts.

Let me know when your maiden voyage is in the new motohome.

Someone said there was a Tiki Trailer or two at the Tiki Oasis, do you know if this is true or have pictures?

More on a work in progress....

The "guest house" is ready.

Our 950 square foot house is a mansion to some and is the size of other people's garden sheds or pool houses.

Needless to say, we don't have the bed space to match our ambitious hospitality.

So visiting folks often stay in the Tiki-Lander which has recently been upgraded with a new awning and some extra layers of cool stuff inside.

Still working out the connection of the poles to the trailer body, but the bamboo softens the aluminum "edge" to our rig.

Got some of those Fred the Aku Moai's (from raf dog here on Tiki Central).
They didn't work out as covers for the propane tanks as planned and now serve as sentries to the door!

After comparing many brands, the 4 led bulb flickering solar torches from Strathwood still have the most realistic flickering effect.

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

With the flash on, added to show off the Fred the Aku and rig.

I love the Tiki-Lander!!! How much does it weigh? I have an Aristocrat Starliner (18.5 ft) and I will eventually get a tow vehicle for it (hey, the trailer was free, and in good condition!) but I need to know the weight.

I'm the 3rd owner, and the inside is totally 1972-the year the trailer was made! Avocado counters and appliances. She had the original, but rotten, fabric on the windows and cushions. I have redone them in 70's fabric in the same harvest gold/avocado. But alas, not tiki. If she hadn't been so close to original I would have.

But someday I'd like to do a tiki caravan at a vintage trailer show!! Tiki drinks at the 1972 Starliner with tiki torches outside...me in a 70's tiki dress....Tikiyaki Orchestra playing....why not?!

Tacky,

Ah yes, that sounds great! You're fabulous Tiki dress? I bet you will look fabulous in it, unless you're a big furry guy like me and then you'd be fabulously freakish.

I don't know how much it weighs, but there are plenty of dumps and scales in N. California, go weigh it.

There is an Aristocrat owner's group out there and someone there might help.

Good for you sticking with whatever decoration plan. The trick is follow through. Avocado accented oasis, so be it. You can always drink a good rum cocktail in it.

Maybe a camp-in at Trader Vics or Forbidden Island?
