Kahiki fireplace restoration. Any updates?

Pages: 1 23 replies

Just wondering if anyone has heard any news of how the restoration is going?

I looked back in the threads and I think the last mention was in 07 with the release of the Tiki Farm mug.

T

The restoration is on hold indefinitely. The fireplace is available for anyone interested in continuing the project.

Sup??

Wow! Another case of the slow economy stalling the Tiki revival? Now that would be something for the F.O.M. to pick up! And build a temple around it. "Build it and they will come!"

Yeah FOM should be all over that!
INterested ti hear how it pans out!
Certainly a cool thing!

Maybe it could take up residence at the Tiki Motel in Lake George?

Wow, what a perfect idea. Have a "Raising the Moai" ceremony during Ohana weekend! :)

good call... we know there will be an ahu there.

I chip in a buck or two to help make that happen is some one is passing around the hat.

That thing was a mess when it left Ohio.
I can not imagine what that long ride on
a truck did to it.
Plus the thing was HUGE!

Where is it, now?

T

I want to rescue this baaaaaaadly. Too bad the extra cost of moving
it to the northeast is now tacked on. I have room for the fireplace &
the moai.

Will the fireplace walk to the new location?

WOW! How did I miss that? I remember seeing tikiskip's posts but missed the fireplace. That baby is less than 2 hours from here. I hope it gets restored, but Hulacat seems to have disappeared. Has anyone had any contact with him?

Took a road trip this weekend. Here's the report:

Now THAT'S what I call an update! Thanks guys!

Think of it as lying in a "Sleeping Beauty" slumber...

.....waiting to be reborn...

..one day!

That really shows how huge it is!

When Melissa and Greg got a truck to haul these items to Vermont I was there and
this Muslim guy gets out of his truck and asks if these were religious objects because
if they were he would not move them.
Melissa told him they were not and away they went.
When they got the items home A car needed to be moved to get the things set, and the nameless person
who moved the car hit there other car while move the car.
Always kinda thought that was some of the Kahiki curse commin out.

Michael Tsao died a short time after the Kahiki was torn down, I had talked to him a few days before
he died as he wanted a copy of my video of the last days of the Kahiki, I wanted Kahiki tables.
I did gat a copy of this dvd to Mrs Tsao after though and she gifted me a light as well.

Ok on to my Moai he is the one from the left of the Kahiki as the top knot was less red in my videos of
the Kahiki.
Always thought it funny that I would get the left wing tiki, and Greg that bleeding heart I love so well would get the right wing.
I did do some work but on this day 10/22/2013 it still need repair.
A new neighbor has moved in and he wants to help me get it up, I thought we could get Viagra
as a sponsor Ha! Ha!
I never wanted or asked for help ie money for this project just so ya know.

Will add this here if people are late to the party and did not see this years ago.

The work and expense involved in either restoring the fireplace or erecting and making in some way functional the Moai is considerable. I can absolutely understand wanting the pieces, as I have traveled many hours to get a chunk of the fallen Barney out of the Mai-Kai gardens. That chunk is under a tarp in my yard and it's not that huge. I have thought about yours skip and I think you could probably hire someone to come make a brand new one for less than it would cost to have yours righted, repaired and made workable.

If only the Kahiki were a bigger thing to those in Columbus, you might could sell it to the city for a dollar if they swore to repair it and put it in some city park as a memorial.

The fireplace is a bigger challenge. You could repair it and make is whole, but then what? If needs a home. It's 22 feet tall. Not many places you can put it. I am sure the Kahiki was built around it. It's just a hugely impractical operation.

Sucks.

I've decided to buy it and start a new business (Once I get my alcohol drive through permit) .

Anymore news on what's up with the fireplace?

T

Man have not heard from Melissa and Greg forever.
Have PMed Greg to no avail.

The Moai I got from Kahiki is out in yard and not covered so it
is cracking and getting worse, but it is hard to find the time and or even
know how to proceed on fixing it if I had time.

Part of me wants to just fill the dam thing all the way with concrete and
leave it at that, but then you could never move it.
