The book is about a young Englishman, Robert Lomax, who has just decided to pursue a new career as an artist. He visits Hong Kong in search of inspiration for his paintings where he checks into the Nam Kok Hotel, not realizing, at first, that it is an unofficial brothel catering mainly to British and American sailors. However, the discovery of that fact only makes the hotel more charming in Lomax's opinion and a better source of subject matter for his paintings. He quickly befriends most of the hotel's bargirls but is most fascinated by the archetypal "hooker with a heart of gold", Suzie Wong, who had previously introduced herself to him as Wong Mee-ling, a rich virgin whose father had five houses and more cars than she could count, and initially pretended not to recognize him at the hotel. Lomax had originally decided that he would not sleep with any of the bargirls at the hotel because he would be living with them for a long time and did not want to put a strain on their relationships. However, it soon emerges that Suzie Wong is interested in him, not as a customer but as a serious boyfriend. Although Suzie Wong becomes the kept woman of two other men and Robert Lomax becomes attracted to a young female British nurse, Lomax and Wong are eventually reunited and the novel ends happily.

Zeta: Such high starting bids are a turn-off for e-bay bidders in general, always were. Much more so in the current American economy. And since this is still the main market for Tiki, Spanish and otherwise, you gotta be realistic about the way it works here.

Tiki is not realistic. Collecting international vintage tiki mugs is not realistic. I am not selling to the realistic "Joe the bidder". SERIOUS COLLECTORS ONLY.

If anyone has any vintage mugs from Mexico or Spain that I don't have already, I will happily pay the same prices I am asking for. I would trade too.

I will not lower the prices. Ever. These are unique mugs that took me years to find in the wilderness of Spain and Mexico. Worth every penny. Awesome antiques are not cheap.

It surprises me that a pop historian like yourself fail to see the importance of these historic pieces... If ultra rare vintage international tiki mugs are not worth a couple hundred dollars, collecting tiki sucks.

No one has them. The mug manufacturer is a complete mystery for everyone. (except me :) ) Key pieces of the worldwide tiki puzzle. This are the originals, not copies like the ones you sold (at high prices) a few years ago with your Kon-Id brand. (back in the day, how much you sold the Maori face replica for?)

Sorry, no bargains here, they are not that expensive either. I repeat, I would pay the same prices if someone was selling something similar. But nobody is. Supply and demand. I'm the sole provider. I set the prices.

Zeta, the above was in no way suggesting that your pieces are not WORTH these prices. I was merely trying to inform you of the market forces on American e-bay and suggest a possible reason why there are no bids on them yet.

I am happy for you that you do not have to sell them for less and do not have to care if they sell or not. I miss-interpreted your "BUY MY STUFF- NOW!" post as being desperate (which I am glad you are not!), or being baffled why no one was bidding. I wanted to explain, and give advice. Some folks here are selling their precious cargo because they have to make next month's rent. That's why I sell if I sell any of my stuff, and I so am happy with whatever cash I get when I need it.

So I wish you well with getting your price, it IS indeed absolutely possible that some well-moneyed collector will happily pay that. Because folks, everything Zeta is saying about the rarity and scarceness of the pieces is true, these are not your average Tiki ceramics.

Zeta, you are offering some wonderful pieces but a lot of us in the states are in the same boat right now and are struggling to make ends meet. Especially those of us who collect Tiki's with families to worry about. I must say that I'm a little turned off with your response to Sven too. You kinda insulted him and that's going to make selling your wonderful Tiki's a little harder to fellow TCer's. I think he was just trying to offer some advice about selling on ebay.......peace bro

Why nobody complains when someone sells something below it's value? These prices are fair for me and hopefully fair for someone else outhere. If not, I will hold my precious item for a decade more or so. I rather eat my shoes on a stew and have onion pie for dessert than to sell my treasures short. I am sorry if I offend anyone, not my intention. My intention is to sell my stuff at a decent price. The piece was VERY expensive originally. They are PORCELAIN, not clay... Oh boy... WHY? OH WHY?
