ukulele

Well my 14yr son informed me he wishes,in addition to the guitar and trumpet, to start playing the ukulele. I have hope for him yet. Are the inexpensive ones worth buying? Any help or feedback on the subject will be appreciated.

Thanks!
Cab

Most of the very cheap ones are hardly worth trying.

Here's the cheapest one ($70.) that I love and play every day now.

I admittedly bought it for the kind of Maori tattoo look, but for the money, it plays nice too.

Here's the other one they make that I considered:

I have a couple of the Kala KA-S and KA-T Ukes and have been playing for a while they are my in the backpack Ukes.
Kala makes great starter and higher end Ukes.

Check out this ebay vendor he has a great rep in the Uke world and sets them up before he ships.

Also check out http://www.ukuleleunderground.com best site on the net for info and lessons!!!!

I saw a "Teach Yourself Ukele" kit at Barnes & Nobles the other day - no, really! Looked like the entire package was nothing but plastic - eww.

Interestingly, the acoustic string instrument rooms at Sam Ash Music and Guitar Centers in metro Chicago have selections of ukeleles. Sam Ash and Beautiful Music (Downers Grove, IL also have instruction books.

By the way; the tenor uke is tuned to the top 4 strings of guitar DGBE, so transition is a snap if you play guitar.

Congrats on raising a great kid
