Yesterday I went to this Julius Shulman exhibit . Muy chula. Lots of eye candy. I would like to know more about this place showed on one of the pictures. Sorry about the poor image quality. The exhibit´s catalog sucks and couldn´t find a better one on the internet, so uploaded tje picture I took from Shulman´s picture. Coffee Dan's was one of the many cool mid-century Coffee Shop chains in Los Angeles. Best source of info is Alan Hess' "Googie", now updated as "Googie Redux". Here is a TC thread that mentions it: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=27832&forum=5&start=15 (in pages 2 and 3) |

I saw this exhibit at the L.A. County Library in downtown L.A. in either 2008 or 2009. |

Man, that is some awesome architecture! Whatever happened to such quality? Why must the appeal [almost] always be targeted at the lowest common denominator?? |
