To the TC'ers in the Bay Area - the jury reached a verdict in the Mehserle trial which will be read at 4 pm. There will be a peaceable protest at 6 pm today at 14th & Broadway in Oakland per plans, which hopefully will not turn violent.
Please be safe in Oakland and on Bart!

So they were planning a "peaceable protest" regardless of the verdict?

EDIT - spelling

I work in a high-rise right in the middle of Oakland. We closed down early around 3pm...as soon as our Leadership heard the verdict was in, an emergency and immediate building evacuation was announced. I've never seen so many people move so fast...masses of people exiting buildings all over Oakland and got very busy.

I hope it does stay peaceful...that kind of a protest carries so much more weight. Will be working out of office over the next few days. Hope everyone else stays safe too.

Looks like another excuse for the self-flagallation of Oakland. Whether in protest or in celebration, someone's Buick in gonna burn tonight.

I live in downtown Oakland....there were 4 or 5 helicopters flying around for awhile but now they are gone. I assume they were from news stations.

If Oakland starts rioting I'm going to hit best buy first so I can get a flat screen and then moving to safeway to grab some steak.

Dayum...that's the attitude I like to see!!! LOL

I need a big flatscreen too, if you can pick up an extra there could be some good cash in this for you. Remember to wear gloves so you don't leave any fingerprints. ;-]

I'm glad to see the rioting was minimal. It was interesting to see on the news that the cops and media far outnumbered the few nonresident "anarchists." The only stores they were able to break into were a foot locker and a beauty supply store! Sorry, anarchists, guess you should have planned your riot a little better...
