The Green Sawmill giant tikis

Came across a pict of these tikis and found these awesome carves. The Green Sawmill is selling any log size you might need, their local carver is just amazing, check those out:

That is some serious talent. Unbelievable how these guys can carve on that scale, and with chain saws! Looks like they cleaned it up a little bit after the initial rough out. Bravo.

The lines in the headdress have chisel lines in them. Awesome piece of work, you can tell that guy worked his @ss off.

I can only say WOW as well. I'd love to own one personally and thats saying a lot given I don't know about the artist besides this post. Who is he? I checked out the website and it doesn't explain the tiki art at all (or did I miss something?)

WOW is an understatement. Humbling is more like it.
2 questions.
What is that Tiki doing on the beach & what kind of value or cost are Tikis of that size.
This guy nailed this thing perfect. Every detail.

I think this is Redwood, such a nice grain at this scale, I haven't found out the name of the carver, i'll post it if I ever find it. There site has no information at all, so if one of you guys lives by San Mateo, please go there and take more pict, it would be nice to have pict of the back of these amazing giants.
About the beach thing, I've heard there was some sort of surf contest that day in Pacifica, that's all I have.
I'm glad you guys are enjoying these as much as I have.

I watched this 72 ear old man work for 12 hours a day nonstop for several days as made my dream of a giant TIKI made out of a tree which had to be remov...ed from the urban forest into these pieces. This man is filled with joy as he worked at what he loves to do... CARVE! Sione Tui'one Pulotu. A self-taught woodcarver who is the principal builder of the Polynesian Cultural Center's Hawaiian Village, which includes the pili grass thatching roofs, once considered a lost art form. Born in Lifuka, Ha'apai, Tonga, Pulotu has crafted different canoes representing every Polynesian society at PCC. His highly intricate tiki carvings as well as other wood works are displayed throughout the cultural center and state. In 1964, he assisted Brother Ortho Fairbanks in making the duplicate statue of Kamehameha on display in Washington, D.C. In 1999, he was commissioned to build a 105-foot-long canoe named "Mileniume" by Tonga's King Tupou. In 2000, he was commissioned to build the 57-foot-long Wa'a Kaulua Hawaiian canoe named "Iosepa" for BYU-H

What a great man! Thanks for the new info as well. After my trip to The Big Island last week I have a stronger curiosity and deeper appreciation for the roots of the culture and native carvers. What a great man and what a great life he has experienced and gave back too many. Much love to this remarkable man.

Awe-inspiring. The size, the detail, the proportion, the wood = magnificence & legend

Spent part of this hot afternoon burying all my carving tools in the backyard. Was going to see if Maverick still had the number to that truck driving school. While cooling off with some ice tea I did some research on the new carver story posting. I found that Sione Tui'one Pulotu is not a new carver. At 71 he's been carving over 40 years and in 2005 was made A National Treasure of Hawaii. I think he carved Hawaii or at least a large part of it. I am looking forward to learning more about the man and his art. It is a good day when you find news that is uplifting
