Hello all, for developing a new burlesque act I'm looking for suitable music. I've searched through the forum (and pretty much all the net) but couldn't quite find what I'm looking for. The act is about the film Barbarella (yes! Jane Fonda! rwar!) I've tried searching for space sci-fi music that would be suitable but doesn't associate with other films (easy would be taking the 'it cam from outer space' soundtrack for instance, but I don't want that) the only thing I found so far (and comes close to being perfect) is Martin Denny's 'quiet village' (moog). it is a good example of the style I'm looking for. the song would require some bleeps and sound effects, maybe organ or synthesizer. and must have an obvious 'retro' sound (preferably 60s) as you might have guessed, this gerne is definitely not my area of expertise, but I think some of you know a lot more about it then me :] an option is to use two different songs and mix then together, the second song would be something funky, like mansfield's 'soul thing' (which is beyond doubt excellent for stripping) but I'm not going to use that because of the grindhouse reference. better yet, finding a space-like song which also has a lot of groove and funk it in. to do the 'zero-gravity' part, ánd the spacegun, ripping your outfit and stripping it off part both to one song. but I don't know if any of that excists. if you have any suggestions for a sci-fi/spy/space/psychedelic/crime/suspense tune that would suit Barbarella I would be VERY gratefull! (also, if you have a good idea on a song for the second part of the act, I very up for some more suggestions :) ) if everything else fails I can just use the film soundtrack, but I'm not very fond of those songs for a killer dance-act. (and listening closely, the aren't very 'space' either) music I found that would be good, but not perfect so far: I very much appreciate every contribution! [ Edited by: amesbury 2010-09-14 11:26 ] |

Ohhhh... Well, how about something form Dick Hyman's "Moon Gas" LP? "Bye Bye Blues" or "Moon Gas" might work. |

Jean-Jacques Perrey's "E.V.A." is a classic bit of '70s Space-Age Moog funk; it's also been remixed by Fatboy Slim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKP4RVqOVOU&feature=related [ Edited by: MrFab 2010-09-14 11:41 ] |

Here's an outer space style track that I contributed to the "Interplanetary Materials" album that also might work for you. (Note the Moon Gas influence.) First thing that I thought of when I read your original post was a couple of tracks from two modern bands that have a kind of retro-futuristic sound. Firstly, a band called Tipsy - http://www.myspace.com/tipsytheband I think that the tracks "Nude On The Moon" or "Ugly Stadium" from their "Trip Tease" album could work well - http://www.amazon.com/Trip-Tease-Tipsy/dp/B000001PAS/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1284901568&sr=1-3 Or the tracks "Fur Teacup" or "Xxxmas" from their "Uh-Oh!" album - http://www.amazon.com/Uh-Oh-Tipsy/dp/B000059H3L/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1284901568&sr=1-4 There's another band called Seksu Roba who have a similar sound. Again, I think that either the tracks "Venus Mysterious" or "Galaxina Fantasy Screw" (nice title!) off their first album - http://www.amazon.com/Seksu-Roba/dp/B00004WIIA/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1284902032&sr=1-1 - could work well. Or maybe the track "Zero Gravity Miniskirt" - http://www.seksuroba.com/mp3/seksu_roba_zerogravity.mp3 Check 'em out. Good luck, |
