Any suggestions for Tiki hotels in Palm Springs and/or LA (other than Caliente Tropics, cool place but with no bar, what's the point?)?

Try to use the search function. Here is a thread to get you started on some information you may find useful on Palm Springs.

As far as I know the Caliente is the only Tiki-ish hotel in Palm springs. There are a number of very cool mid-century/retro hotels and motor courts. Most of them are too small to have their own bars, but some that don't still serve cocktails to guests by the pool. The thread that leleliz linked covers a lot of the bars, eats and attractions, and a search for Palm spring on TC turns up some more interesting stuff.

Sadly, I have never seen any mention on tikicentral, or anywhere else, of any Tiki hotel still in operation in the LA area. And the Tiki bars are spread out all around the county so at best you'll be close to one. Good trip to bring along a designated driver ...

The Riviera Hotel http://www.psriviera.com/ in Palm Springs is the "New" Place to Be & Place to Be Seen. Not Tiki but Very Swanky. You might even catch a glimpse of TC's own Wildsville Man behind the bar there

The bar may be reopened now. You may wish to call and inquire.

While the Riviera is a great 60s style hotel, I also liked the hotels:

Marriot in Palm Desert (just like the Hilton on the Big Island):

Try the ACE. It's a complete makeover of the original Westward Ho (same as in Vegas in the 50s/60s and formerly the Howard Johnson's). Very edgy and funky. The rooms look like bachelor pads from the 70s. There was a major spread in the L.A. Times travel section 2-3 Sunday's ago. Extremely unique and they have about ten rooms they sell for under $90/nt. Two doors from the tropics which is being run into the ground. (The tropics is the only authentic tiki hotel left in the U.S. and probably in the world.)

If your going to visit the New Trader Vic's LA you must stay at the Figueroa Hotel.

The following condo "Hale Panoa" has a tiki - Hawaiian themed interior with wet bar. Two master suites with bathrooms, three televisions, private lanai, and three swimming pools with jacuzzis in the complex:

I've heard the Rivera is definitely the new "hot" Palm Springs Hotel to stay at, since its had a nice, new renovation. Still does not have the tiki feel like caliente. If you are looking for a deal, check out this list of Palm Springs Hotel Discounts for options, if you are not particular in the room. But again, if you're looking for tiki, have to go caliente!
