I did a bit of a browse to see if I could find a thread like this but to little avail. Wondering if there are any vintage shots like the one I found on another forum I frequent. I thik this picture is awesome and thought I might share it.

By the way, does anyone recognize the background Tiki, the lady or the mug?

Mahalos,

Yes, that's a fantastic shot - probably one of the best vintage photos showing a tiki-mug in use.

It comes from the Life Magazine Photo Archives. Back in 2008 we started a thread and scoured almost every tiki-related image we could from that archive. Here's the results:

You can see your photo down near the bottom of the first page. The restaurant is the Islander in Los Angeles - part of the old Restaurant Row on La Cienega Blvd. The mug was made by Spurlin ceramics specifically for the Islander:

Yeeeah, Sabu is back, in classic supportive, informed M.C. manner, pointing to quality images past and present! :)

Damn Sabu...I thought I came up with something there. Nice collection on that link. Thanks. There were nested links too that lead me to Life magazines and all kinds of classic vintageness. Thanks again. This has got to be the most fun I have had on a forum.

I have a greeting card with a colorized version of that photo -
