two of the ukes are cheese but tiki nonetheless, and the others are a bakelite baritone uke circa 50's and a hand carved tahitian mandolin, circa 60's!!

I've been thinking lately of learning the uke, I've never had any luck at any other instrument so I couldn't do worse with this than with those. How difficult is it to pick up?

I have a bit of a uke collection too. Here are three that hand around my office. I'll have to take a camera home to get some pictures of some others.

The two Silvertones have nice Hawaiian graphics. The center uke is a no-name that I painted myself. All three are players... not great players.

Adding to this ukulele thread:

So... yes, no one needs three Poke-A-Lay-Lee's, I know this... I can't explain how I ended up with these three long-necked odd-balls. The pineapple uke (sideways) and the concert uke (lower right) are both koa Kamakas and the sweetest sounding things you ever heard. Also worth noting is the mahogony Martin (top right) which has a wonderful warm tone. The Mele and the concert Kamaka are fitted with Fishman pickups for performances. All good fun.

I only have one uke, bought recently to replace my starter (which is now so thrashed and crapped-out I can't even give it away), but it's a beauty:

It's a Big Island koa soprano with tortoise (fake since we don't want to kill any honu) and rope binding. Check it, the position dots are abalone pics of the Big Island!

Ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, strung with Aquila in a nice hard case with digital tuner. Got it from Mim's Ukes on eBay.Love this uke thread, keep 'em coming! One of 'em even looks like a weapon - why not? The uke is for warriors too!
