Jeff Berry says Fee Brothers Falernum is the best. But one of the liquor stores I buy from stocks John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum. Can it be substituted? Thanks for your help, |

The "Rum Guy" at High-Times liquor says the "Velvet Falernum" is superior. |

I like the idea of using a liquor rather than a syrup -- that way I won't have to worry about it going bad. |

It is excellent. Buy it and compare for yourself. |

I've only seen the Velvet brand of falernum, and only in one store at that. I like it. |

I've purchased both and much prefer the Velvet Falernum. Even better: homemade. Kevin |

I know it's best to make your own...But since I can barely manage to make dinner half the time, I figure I need to save time where I can. Otherwise I might not eat and won't have the strength to drink. |

While I personally think that the VF is better, the Fee Bros Falernum isn't bad at all. Keep in mind that The Bum and none other than Dr Cocktail himself, Robert Hess, personally created Fee's Falernum and designed it specifically to work with Don The Beachcomber's recipes. |
