How about a Bad Tiki theme. All Party City and Buffett stuff. Just bring out your worst of the worst gifted shirts and Mayan tiki stuff. Everyone carry a plastic Big Lots tiki cup or an accoutrement one. Someone do a seminar on Oriental Trading company luaua decor through the years...

But then it would be "Tiki Hell" all weekend!

I think we are already there!

But seriously, why not go back to just "tiki"? I find that interesting enough! But I do like the tiki orient theme...or possibly safari tiki, if we really want to go off the reservation.

So based on the Spy theme for Oasis 2012, who would be an appropriate guest performer ??

Why Shirley Bassey of course !!

I doubt Otto will be able to afford her but there are some pretty good "Shirley Bassey" tribute artists around. Take a listen...

Or how about a Johnny Rivers tribute ??...

The real Johnny Rivers is probably more affordable then the tribute band. :D

How about Tom Jones? Nancy Sinatra? Lulu? all of them performed great Bond theme songs and I don't think it would be impossible.

There's even an entire James Bond tribute band !! Here's "The Man with the Golden Gun"...

I think that singer is better than Lulu.

And there's Slacktone for the requisite Surf music at Oasis.

They do a smokin' Spy medley (with some Crime Jazz thrown in). Here's a recent set from Don's...

Otto is all about the music. I think Otto bases his Oasis themes on which bands he can get to be both entertaining and throw additional light on the Tiki-Exotica-MidCentury development of popular music that he really loves.

The Mexican theme wasn't just about growing liphair and drinking some darn fine tequila, it was all about how most of the musicians who played Exotica were Latino, and their giant influence. The bands freaking nailed it Saturday night.

This Spy theme is perfect from a music, history, and fun aspect. Let the Strats rip. Number 6 would be proud.

I am SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!!!!!

!!! ???

Maybe in the case of Cal Tjader but even "Mexicans" like Herb Alpert and the Baja Marimba Band's Julius Wechter were in fact nice Jewish boys. :)

"Spy Tiki? I'll shoot a hole into THAT idea!"

too bad all the Shirley Bassey tribute bands are in the UK!?!

So I am feeling like we should think more "out of the box" on these Tiki Oasis themes. I would love to see a Fruits & Veggies theme:

We know how huge a Breakfast theme would be... Who doesn't see a million "Waffle King" pics every Oasis?

Why not an Ice Cream theme???

...We all scream for ice cream!

Feel free to use my ideas or ask me for more (ninja, 80s, video games  ). I will just need a 4 pack of event tickets :)

OK, let's hear about those other ones? Video Games? Mario? (would we move the date to Mar 10, official Mario day?)
How bout 80s? New Wave? Catch a Wave, New Wave Tiki, New Tiki - only new Tiki music made after the release of Book of Tiki (2000)

Cindy Lauper might be available, I saw her on a skin care commercial while I was typing this.
Stan Ridgeway lives in the San Diego area
Members of X have already been to Tiki Oasis, as has David J of Bauhaus, maybe they will come back for an 80s reunion?

An Under the Sea theme was suggested on other social media for 2019 or beyond. There is lots of mid-century sources of inspiration to draw from.
