yes, "... of the caribbean" i hate high pressure sales. they probably make those poor saps walk the plank if they sell less than a specified quota, though. |

I didn't know major retailer chains (video or regular retailers) had edited stuff for DVDs, even major release domestic stuff?!! Could someone enlighten me? Is it specifically limited to Blockbuster and Walmart? So I can get a unadulterated copy at, say, Target? I was aware of edited movie problems, but I thought it was only limited to foreign films like Jet Li's Hong Kong films. Please let me know, because I may need to find a new DVD market. |

i would assume amazon.com is fairly safe. i would like to believe that target is safe, but i wouldn't put it past them, either. sounds like ms. cynful has more of the scoop, though, which i would also like to hear. ::nudge nudge:: |

Check out this thread: I don't know specifically what Wal-Mart's policy is on videos and DVDs. Blockbuster won't carry any NC-17 rated movies, and some films are edited to remove explicit content. |

thanks, c. hm. well, i know that the bruce lee movies i got at walmart have scenes cut. (bruce lee for pete's sake!) i know this because i've seen other versions with those scenes intact. "good times" home video is a specific brand to look out for. this only really affects older movies that have multiple distributors, though. i'm not going to go into all of the other reasons walmart is pure evil, but i was tempted after reading parts of that thread. on a depp-ier note, the pirates dvd is a pretty good buy. nice extras - not as hefty a selection as either of the lord of the rings extended sets, but still pretty good. |

i hate pressured sales and I NEVER buy any movies or music that I know would be censored. And if anyone at wal-mart, block buster, or any other company has a problem with it, I will hold them down and make them swab me poop deck. ...argh |

editing movies for content??!! Canadian TV is pretty relaxed about stuff like that, I usually know it's a US channel when the swear words or nudity is missing.(maybe it's not like that anymore?)If they're being edited here, it's for length. I don't believe any of our Blockbusters edit their movies, if anything, that's where you go to rent the un-edited stuff! I plan on purchasing Pirates of the Caribbean, I'll have to check it out, just to be sure I'm not being jipped  |

that's funny - there was just an article in the news today about the widening rift between the US and Canada over stuff like this. the actual examples they used were pot-smoking and gay marriage, but i think this falls under the same kind of stuff. the article was saying Canada's sensibilities were more european. i told the two canadian girls in my studio today that i'm moving there. |

Hey now, don't get me started! I'm a happy Canadian, but I am married to an American, so I could go on about this crap forever. Don't tempt me! I always assumed that all Blockbuster stuff was edited in Canada the same as the US - I heard that homosexual scenes were especially chopped out - but I never watch a movie twice so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe Blockbuster Canada doesn't edit? I doubt it though - it's the parent company's decision to edit, and has nothing to do with Canadian laws. My guess is, if its edited in the US Blockbusters, it's edited here. It would cost them too much to do it both ways, and they are doing it for their 'corporate image' so I don't see why Canada would still get the naughty bits. Unless Blockbuster head ofice thinks we Canucks wouldn't put up with that silly puritanism. Vive la socialism! Vive la smoking! Vive la lesbiennes! vive la poutine! |

Oh! I'd forgotten that one! Blockbuster doesn't stock gay-themed films. A co-worker of mine tried to rent "Love! Valor! Compassion!" there a couple of years ago and was told that the company didn't condone the homosexual lifestyle. Eeeeeck! |

yeah, the blockbuster near my old place in orlando had plenty of gay-related films, foreign and domestic. that might have been a regional thing. they're still evil, though. there is a cool virtual pirates of the caribbean disneyland ride on disc 2! :) |

Veddy interesting.... Is "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" considered gay? I guess it is foreign though. I know Rodgers has plenty of "Adult" movies, but that's an entirely different company. Next time I'm in Blockbuster I'll have to ask. Not that they'll tell me anything. :) |
