need help with chord progression...

F

I'm trying to learn a song on the uke without knowing what the original chords were.
I know a little about theory, but not very much.
The song has a quick little downward chromatic chord progression, but I'm having trouble figuring out what one of the chords would be.
I don't know what the key is, but I do know that it sounds Major.

Can you help me figure out what the missing, third chord is?
C, E7, __, F

Thanks!

It could be Bb
It could be D

Could be lots of things. Song title?

and, HI FRED!!!

It's hard to answer your question without hearing/reading the melody and also knowing the context of that passage. Can you post a lead sheet with the melody or something like that?

TM

It's "A", damn it!

Thanks everyone! I will try out all of those chords when I get home.
I would tell you what it is, but I kind of want it to be a suprise.

Granite, when I figure it all out, you and I will be playing it together at Ohana! :D

It would definitely be A damnit if the fourth chord were D7. But the mention of a possible chromatic descending line cliche makes it not as likely. Of course he could have the fourth chord (F)wrong.

Again, more info is needed.

Fred!!! Come back!!!!

Oh there you are!

Okay, we'll wait then.

psssst, PM me the song title.

I'm back!
OK, Granite.
I will send you a PM with the youtube link of the song I'm learning, then you will see what I mean.
I'm going to play this as a sound sample for Joe's uke when I finish it. I wanted to suprise him with it.
Check your PM's in a sec.

Okay!

By the way, it's not posted officially yet, but I believe I'll be hosting a big ukulele jam at Ohana on Saturday night after dinner. And I plan to close the joint!!! (Paradise Lounge)
So don't break a finger playing wiffle ball!!!!

F

I think it's a C7 folks.
Thanks!

O

C7 would make sense, if the bass line was C, B, Bb, A

So with the chords, it would be:

C - E7/B - C7/Bb - F/A

Does that make sense?

F

Precisely!!

O

I love this place.

TM

In that case, it's "on the beach AT WAIKIKI"

It was an unknown (to the public at large) song.

It was pretty much a folky guitar style C CMaj7 C7 F progression that finkdaddy wanted to make more uke-centric in just the way onyabirri described.

You guys rock!
I had this same question up on a ukulele forum for two days and no one even responded.
But you guys were on top of it in no time!
