Live in the outskirts of beautiful Las Vegas where I am putting the finishing touches on my home Tiki Lounge and wanted to post some pics to get some input from anyone for some final details. The Kickback title I thought appropriate for two reasons: 1.Relaxing and enjoying drinks with friends. 2.The Aladdin Casino room sign which, if you look into the properties history from the 60's thru the 90's management faced many accusations of questionable monetary transactions. Vegas and the good old days!!! I also wanted to share an interesting story behind the Witco Bar and how I acquired it. My neighbor from ten years ago was hanging out with me one afternoon and told me that his wife told him he had to get rid of his bar that he had purchased many years ago, because she was on him about a drinking problem(which I feel he did not). So he asked me if I wanted it and ended up selling it to me for $100. When he showed it to me originally I had no idea of the significance of it's history and value until just a few years ago when I came across another Witco bar set that was listed for $4,500 in a private sale. Since I do a lot of woodworking I fell in love with it when I first saw it in his house. Had to have the original black leather stool tops reupholstered. Sliding doors open to the pool out back. Bamboo chairs and table from craigslist Traded a wood bookcase for this tiki when I delivered it to a buyers home Just a couple of Las Vegas Stardust Aku Aku items I collected over the years |

Thanks for your encouraging comments. Here are some day pics. Here is interior looking out to pool. Looking from outside thru sliding doors I need to change out these handles with full round bamboo(two horizontals with one vertical), maybe tied with rope, which I have not a clue how to tie? |

Hey P4T Regarding your sliders to the pool. really nice touch! I had very similar handles/pulls on the large drawers on my outside bar. Awkward and hard to grip. I replaced em with an 15" x 4" section of bamboo (not split). They're fairly massive and add a little drama. There is a 1/2" spacer that has an opening for a nylon tie which holds the bamboo securely, I used a white tie, which then covered them with the same "windings" (used to conceal the nails on the chairs in your pix) Snip off the excess tie at the back and the winding looks like some skilled island artisan did it for you. Use a dab of your best adhesive to hold the end on the last tuck. It'll make sense as you teach yourself how the winding is done.Take apart and study the wraps on a piece that you are restoring-it's so easy you will laugh. Picked up the Windings at O A, bout 10 bucks a hank-enough for plenty of future projects. I know, A pic is worth a thousand..... |
