I've just posted a short video clip of Arthur playing "Yellow Bird" at the New Otani Hotel in Waikiki. I think I recorded it in 2002. It's short and the quality is poor due to compression but I thought some would like seeing it. (Warning - It is about 6 MB). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccb69mPgOa0 Enjoy, |

NICE...I saw a few others similar to this. His solo reading of this song is just amazing. I wish he was still alive so I could go see him play. :( This is the one I saw |

Wow, great story. It sucks to discover these great people after they're gone (which is the case with me) A few days ago, I actually tracked down Harold Chang, his percussionist on all those albums (some of Martin Denny's too) who is still alive and managing the drum dept of a music store in Honolulu. I talked to him for a few minutes and told him I was sending him my CD (The Tikiyaki Orchestra) I really wanted to ask him all kinds of questions about the days of playing with lyman and Denny. I guess I'll have to save it for the next time I go to Honolulu and track him down at the store and bug him (which I WILL do) I also would love to know what happened to Gene Rains...no one seems to know anything about him. |

Harold Chang is a really nice guy. Here is a link to the interview I did with him for Cool and Strange Music Magazine many moons ago..... http://www.ele-mental.org/~ecc/exo/exotica/changinterview.html Cheers and Mahalo, P.S. There is also a nice discography on Arthur Lyman over there too!! |

Wow, Jeff Great interview. Thanx for that. It amazed me that it took me a total of about 5-7 minutes from when I googled his name until I was on the phone with him. This internet thing never ceases to amaze me :) |

Here are four clips of the Arthur Lyman Group from the TV show "On The Town" filmed at the Marine Room in the Olympic Hotel, Seattle WA in 1964. Enjoy!
Profhummingflowah put the Taboo clip on You tube in 2009 but this free of the over-layering conversation. aloha, tikicoma p.s. Thank you Coco Amore whoever you are! [ Edited by: tikicoma 2013-01-20 21:49 ] |

Huge fan of Lyman, going way back. These were excellent clips. Politically incorrect and awesome! 1964 was a bench mark year (and the year I was born) for music....something terrible happened to music in 1964...but I love practically everything that came before that date, and loathe most everything that came after. And after checking the wikipedia page on Pete Barbutti (the host in those clips), I came across this nugget: "Pete Barbutti is also believed to have "scuffled" with all four of The Beatles during a performance in Las Vegas." Awesome. Pete, wherever you are...had I been around back then I would have gladly joined in! Seems you also are bothered by something that happened in 1964!
