Don't forget to have your celebratory jelly doughnut in honor of the Kings birthday today! Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Gladys and Vernon Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935. |

Crap! This means the big Salute show will be this weekend in Pigeon Forge! Gotta go! They either do the entire Aloha from Hawaii show or the Comeback Special show, complete with costume changes and faux skits! Thanks for reminding me! |

Happy Birthday KING! My MOM is the #1 Elvis fan of Fishkill. Yup, complete with former kids bedroom turned into shrine. She even confessed to my ex that she married my Dad 'cause he looked like Elvis! "I was always, baby, I was always |

I may just mix some peas and crumbled bacon in with my mashed potatoes tonight in honor of Elvis. (Oh, and he ate them out of a big bowl with his hands.) |

I'm watching "Viva Las Vegas" on the tube. Did you ever notice Elvis walks like a gun-fighter with his arms bent and hands hovering about his hips as if he's going for his guns? |

If I may TW~ That's a variation of a recipe that was done by The Food Network and isn't actually Elvis' official recipe (bacon/bacon drippings was never a component of the sandwich). Here it is in it's actual form: 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter *Combine (and mash) peanut butter & bananas. Makes 4 sandwiches. You will see some variations of the above recipe where they say to "place slices of banana on (peanut)buttered slices of bread. That's where the mistake comes in. You need to mash that banana with the peanut butter. And as for the quantity of butter? It's up to you, but Elvis didn't hold back on the butter, so you'll need lots. Be sure to watch your heat since it can burn. Believe me, these are REAL good! I recommend this book for the true recipes of Elvis. I have it, and it's pure Southern comfort food. The South knows how to cook up some damn good food! Looking at the recipes, it seems like just simple recipes, but if you follow the instructions to the 't', your mouth will be in for some real treats. Plus the book is only $8 (well spent if I may add). I picked mine up at the Elvis Museum in Las Vegas. Just my 2 "peanut butta & nanner samich" worth. This past month has been a good month for the DC/Baltimore area, as far as Elvis impersonators go. The first weekend in December had Baltimore hosting its 10th annual "Night of 100 Elvises" event. This was the first year I've attended, and although they had perhaps only 8 or so, and not 12 Elvis impersonators, it was still a fun event. Two weekends ago I saw the play "Cooking With Elvis" performed at the Kennedy Center. Others in our nation's Capital may have chosen to see performances by the National Symphony, or Russia's Kirov Ballet, but I chose to see the play that featured the character of a quadriplegic Elvis impersonator, along with many acts of depravity thatI won't get into. Waiting for the next appearance of Elvis... Vern |
