  1. Tonga Room Zombie. Serviceable but not stellar. Doesn't call for LH151, Cruzan 151 will do. Probaably one of the main reasons this Zombie is alright but no great shakes. Of course, if I was served this drink at a local joint I would be thrilled, but that is merely because the quality bar has been set so low.

  2. Jim's Special -- Tiki Ti drink via Remixed. Whoah! Really drinkable and nicely balanced for the 4.5 oz of spirits in this one (not counting curacao). Offhand I can't think of another cocktail that pairs dark rum and tequila, but it certainly works in this drink.

I saw a Pussers tasting event advertised & thought 'I do like Pussers, I'll have me some of that...'.

Here's my home version:

The more drinks with Coco Lopez I drink the more appreciate it as an ingredient. If you like Pussers, the Painkiller is a good drink - the cinnamon / nutmeg come across nicely.

Pussers 15 year really is the good stuff IMO, it's on my list to buy a proper bottle but I'm enjoying these reasonably priced miniatures til I do an online order.

As I'm nearing the bottom of my Pussers Blue label, I think I'll miss it when its gone.

The questions is do I go for a normal bottle of blue label or one of their decanters?

A decanter is 3 or 4 times the price of a bottle of Pussers. I have a Pussers hip flask & a miniture decanter which I could sell to lessen the shock of the cost... More rum or a cool decanter?

Ad, is your Pusser's Blue the 84 proof or the 95.5 proof? We haven't been able to get the 95.5 here for years, I miss it.

Having a Yamashiro's Zombie from djmont's book. This one is not half bad. The recipe calls for a dark 151 Jamaican rum that I sub'd for with the moderately overproof Smith&Cross, and I think it works pretty well.

Neither - its the 109 proof (54.5%). That's the common one in the UK.

Seeing as my blue label is nearly 57% (at 54.5%) I usually use a 1/2 to a measure less than a recipe calls for, it still has pep.

My opinion matters little but: I think Pussers should cut the different proofs of their basic stuff (I know of 4 now) & just produce one 'navy strength' one (114 proof aka 57% & flammable).

Pussers is so distinctive & stinky (in a good way) ~ it's not like customers will say 'nah, its too strong now' (or be unable to work out fractions to use an amount they prefer). Probably people (like yourself Sunny&Rummy) would actually like to get their hands on a 'navy strength' version - variety is a good thing but that would be in keeping with the history of navy rum.

However, the 15 year could stay 80 proof / 40% ~ its officers rum :)

Yeah, the worldwide gamut of the Pusser's portfolio and the limited availability of so many of their expressions is frustrating. I am a big fan of the 3 versions I have tried.

Drinking a Jet Pilot now, and might need to mix up another.

I have a friend over. First a Kahiki Kai. Followed by a Fink Bomb. Both simple, yet tasty, and good candidates as "gateway drinks" to introduce newcomers to cocktails made with fresh ingredients.

Oh happy daze! I mean nights. While searching for my scattered everywhere mini mugs/shooters to show on “collecting tiki” I came across an unopened bottle of T V’s Kona Coffee liqueur.Almost as good as finding a bottle of Zaya!

The Rum Cow is tasty, basically a New Orleans Brandy Milk Punch with dark rum in place of the brandy. Shake up an egg and some nutmeg with it and you have a killer egg nog too.

Puka Puka Punch -- previously inpublished circa 1937 Don the Beachcomber recipe from the forthcoming Beachbum Berry Potions of the Caribbean. Excellent drink!! If you dig rhum agricole (listen up Peagy with the Donga Punch), you will definitely like this one!

Jon, no, the Tiki Ti Puka Punch is one of my favirites, but the "new" Puka Puka Punch is a completely different drink. From the personal notebook of Dick Santiago which, iirc, is the same notebok where Jeff resurrected the '34 Zombie from. Damn, that's a notebook!

I finally added some Zombie glasses (Libbey 40 cl) to my glassware and inaugurated these with making the Spievak Zombie recipe Friday night. Also mixed some tasty Castaways and Royal Hawaiians.

4cl havana anejo blanco
1cl appleton extra(12yrs)
3cl orange juice
3cl lemon juice
2cl grenadine Monin

Gotta say, the new LH doesn't smell as dreamy, but it hits most of the same notes for me when mixed up. As an alternative to.. nothing, glad we have it.
