The legendary Robert Drasnin joins me in-studio to discuss the making of his exotica classic, Voodoo, his exotica comeback album Voodoo II, his big band days, recordings with Red Norvo and his time working in television as composer of music for shows like "CBS Playhouse," "The Twilight Zone," "Mission: Impossible," "Wild, Wild West," "Hawaii Five-0," "Time Tunnel," "Lost In Space," "Mannix,""The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "Voyage To The Bottom of the Sea." We will play some of his recordings, incidentals and his jazz favorites. Robert currently teaches music at UCLA. |

Sorry. No, just kidding, the sound will be spy. Come for the drinks, stay for the drinks (and tolerate the music)! Plus Otto's deejaying too!

Last night Forbidden Island with the help of Otto's Grotto ended its 20 weeks of tiki drinks with a bang--giving away trips to Oasis, tickets to the event, mugs, shirts and other swag to those that participated in the weekly imbibing of delicious cocktails never before served at FI. Michael and Otto thank you for this collaboration---and for Kat and the other bartenders who stepped in on a rare Wednesday for the delicious drinks. We are super lucky to not only have Forbidden Island but to have Otto as a local so we can benefit from events like these. Great to meet and talk tiki with some unexpected visitors up from SoCal--TikiVato and his brother Nui 'umi 'umi -- can't wait to share cocktails at Oasis my new friends :) Hope the rest of your trip goes well and check out Palo Alto TVs before they close gosh darn it! I swear they are still open until Sunday :) Aquarj great music...definantly had a spy vibe and it was also great to finally meet you as well. sorry you won't be making it to TO though ...hopefully next year! Hope this 20 weeks of drinks leading up to Oasis is going to happen every year :) |

Come for the rum, stay for the fun TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6 Mt Gay Rum, known as "the rum that invented rum" has chosen Forbidden Island to launch their latest rum, BLACK BARREL, in celebration of the brand's 310th anniversary! The official launch will take place from 5 to 6:30 and is a private event, but join us afterward for tastings and two wonderful cocktails showcasing this incredible rum! Someone noted that I had not posted any Otto's Grotto gigs here on TC and wondered if I was still doing the DJ gig The November Otto's Grotto is Next Wed., Nov 6 and it will be a party as I am premiering a free drink coaster and I have a guest DJ: Tyler Straub is a Bay Area local DJ, electronic musician and analog enthusiast of many eclectic themes and varieties. His fascination with the lounge era and vintage recordings began at a very early age and continue to strongly influence his interests today. We will also be joined by Beatnik artist MP painting live in the bar. And we will premiere the new Tiki Oasis Beatnik drink coasters! Be there or be SQUARE.
