Don Beachcomber recipe found

I was looking through some old news papers in google and came across a recipe supposedly by Don the Beachcomber . The drink name looks like Campiri Polynesian ( kind of hard to read) but it says equal parts Campiri, Italian Vermouth, and Papaya Juice shake with ice and strained into cocktail glass.

Here is the link the article is between the 2 black dots below the picture of the guy .

Fun find. Seems an odd pairing to me personally. With the tartness of the Compari, I am assuming the Italian Vermouth was a sweet variety?

yes, references to "Italian" Vermouth= sweet (red) vermouth; to "french" = dry (white) vermouth.

Campari with sweet vermouth= an Americano, a classic cocktail. Add gin to an Americano for a Negroni.

Cool find, I will certainly give it a try.

What was the closest Don the Beachcomber to Toledo? Chicago?
