We thought it might be fun to have a thread on (non-tiki) books that mention tiki in some way.

Can't resist one more -- a good one -- from Jack Kerouac, On the Road, a description of Clifton's Pacific Seas:

Have to admit we haven't ever seen a picture of any part of Clifton's (Pacific Seas or Brookdale) that quite matches that description. Sounds more like a place like this:

"Chris [Wood] was very kind to us, those first days [in L.A.]. He took us to all the best restaurants - Chasen's, Musso and Frank's, the Vine Street Brown Derby (where we saw Charles Boyer without his wig) and the Beachcomber where we drank Zombies and Missionary's Downfalls in semidarkness, while the artificial rain drummed on the roof and streamed down the windows.
