Aloha everyone! I really want to get together with everyone out here in Tackyville at Peppermill. I'm thinking a Saturday would be good. Now we have Valentine's day coming up and Presidents' Day. So... what Saturday in February or early March is good for you SF Bay Area people? I've been busy working on the Lava Lounge in Sacramento (Audrey, aka Mom) is moving there hopefully the week after the Crawl. So My head has been spinning trying to get the house fixed up, working full time, going to school for landscape design. So help me out a little and pick a date! :drink: Tacky [ Edited by: martiki on 2005-03-01 07:20 ] |

Tacky, this sounds like a nice idea. I can't offer any good / bad dates because I have work travel obligations coming up that keeps jumping around on the calendar. But feel free to pick a date and post about it, and Naomi and I will come if we can! Don't think we've met you at any of the bay area soirees yet. -Randy |

In order to drive to Concord I would need to hear that they still make the cocktail waitresses wear the bride of frankenstien gowns. |

Went to the Peppermill Concord last night. They still have pink sugar on the tables, silly frills stuck in the food, a drink called the lava flow, the firepit, tacky blooming fake trees (I want one!) BUT....the waitresses wear low cut sparkly tops now. Like sequins or something. All I know is that they would never hire me there-I don't have the equipment to fill out the top! I'm thinking March 13, saturday. How does that sound to everyone? Now...time?? Gotta get a spot by the firepit! I was trying to figure out how to make a firepit like that for the Lava Lounge Lanai. Only with black lava rocks around the edge. Or maybe it could be rigged up in one of those black 'lava' waterfall things they have at Orchard Supply. A mini firepit. Anyone tried this yet? Off to Citrus Heights to paint the '62 kitschen light turquoise! :drink: Tacky |

The Concord Peppermill is the only one I've been to; stumbled across it on a solo business trip. You can imagine the WTF look on my face. I'd love to go back again, since I imagine it may not be around much longer the way things are headed. The date you've proposed works for me. |

O.k-here's the official date for a trip to Peppermill, Concord is March 13, Saturday. How does 7:30-ish sound to everyone? That may be early enough to get a seat near the famous firepit! Let me know what you think! :drink: Tacky |

Well, I posted the previous message from school tonight, before heading out to the Peppermill. Guess what....it's CLOSED! There was a sign on the door saying 'Thank you Concord for 25 years!' This is an outrage! I'm so disappointed! I loved that place! So...needless to say, we won't be meeting there on March 13. We'll just have to make a Reno trip! And does anyone know how to get some of the decor? Like those cool silk trees? And I never got to try a 'Lava Flow'! :drink: :drink: :drink: Tacky |

This just goes to show that one should never put off visiting their favorite establishment!! We missed the Peppermill by only one month! The Jab and I missed the Hukilau Bar and Restaurant in Key West by 3 weeks(the jab had been there previously). I went to Portland 2 previous times doing family stuff and ended up never having time to visit the Trader Vics there. "Next time", i said. Next time I did visit the Portland Trader Vic's only to find it had closed just over a month previous!! Sometimes there is NEVER a next time!! ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!!! snif! :( |

ps--Tacky-you did great in planning this, I am NOT criticizing you in picking your date by any way. In fact Thank you for trying to put this together. Again, you did great. What I am trying to say to everyone-go to your favorite hangout ASAP and as other as you can. Try out that place you have always wanted to check out but always seemed to never do "next week, maybe-you keep saying to yourself" Again, maybe may NEVER come..do it tonight-do it this weekend. People thought that the Kahiki would never close because it was on the National Regisrty of Historic Places. You just never know. "They" just tore down a fabulous bowling alley in Novato called Nave Lanes! Don't kick yourself. Go out and explore and take photos before it the world is replaced by Walgreens and Home Depot. I get off my soap box and pass it to someone else! |

I find it amazing that in one week this place closed down with no warning!! The Kahiki gave us tons of warning and they made big bucks from customers wanting to go at least one last time. The Concord Peppermill folks blew it!! |

As far as I know, I was there on the last night. I went there A week ago last friday after school and the place was pracked. No parking spots in the lot left. Seems like it was a pretty low-key hangout for 20-30 somethings that aren't trying to keep up with the Joneses and just doing their own thing. There didn't seem to be a particular 'crowd' or 'type' that hung out there. And when we went by after school this past friday there were loads of cars coming in and checking out the note on the door. Seems to me it was a corporate idea to close everything but the casinos. Whether or not the place was making money (which this place HAD to be!) Everything closes out here by 11. I am out of school at 10. Peppermill was perfect in alot of ways. I'm sure as heck not going to start hanging out at Tiki Tom's, no matter what the TIPSY factor is (I think it's really low anyway.) Guess I'll just have to come home and make my own drinks! (sniff!) :drink: Tacky And Mr. Smiley I am not offended by your comments on not getting to the Peppermill sooner. I was trying to include Martiki so we would have a bigger group, but it didn't work out. I never knew about it until your post on the 'Beyond Tiki' forum. I didn't know what Peppermill was like! I'm glad I saw it before it was gone! Gotta go to Reno now! About 2 hours from the Lava Lounge!! |

The tikitacky Peppermill is CLOSED???? I am in SHOCK! That has traditionally been our yearly firefighter's Christmas Cheer location (usually done in the morning after shift change sometime during December). This just REEKS! Well, if the "group" decides to get together on the 13th, I would love to be included. I am new to this forum... but local! How about Tiki Tom's in Walnut Creek? They make a GREAT "Slutty Shirley" there! Goes down WAY too easy! Keep me posted! [ Edited by: Tiki Fire on 2004-03-03 18:58 ] |

Well Tiki Fire, if you and anyone else wants to head to The Conga Lounge in Oakland this Saturday night(the 13th), my friend Paul and his Buddy (spytiki??)are Dj'ing sixties spy music. The Conga lounge has a nice tiki atmosphere and cocktails and is located above Pizza Rustica at 5422 College Ave in the Rockridge District. The Conga is about 4 blocks away from the Rockridge Bart station. Check the BART website to see what the latest train out of there is. Call the Conga at 510-654-1601 for more info, but I think the event is from 9pm to 1am or so.--bruce Have a nice Tiki Day! [ Edited by: mrsmiley on 2004-03-10 11:12 ] |

mrs miley and I swung by the old peppermill place in concord last night to see what is going in in its place - it is going to be a Vietnamese restaurant - coming soon! - AND bar (two of my favorite things, combined) it looks like they are keeping a LOT of the old furnishings (perhaps to save money) so that would be VERY COOL if they might keep the old look and firepit of the lounge - fingers crossed! It is called Paradise 33. If they keep the original decor and firepit AND serve decent vietnamese food, it will be MY personal idea of Paradise... |

So that one Peppermill that was next to Apple Computers in Cupertino(?) has been closed, but there was another one in the South Bay/South Peninsula area (Santa Clara or Sunnyvale?) that was still open. Is that one now closed too? I liked the fire pit, it will be missed. |

What used to be the Peppermill in Concord re-opened this week as Paradise 33 - a Vietnamese restaurant and bar. I'd be curious to see if they left any of the original fire pit area fixtures. Has anyone checked it out yet? This is their website, which is not very informative: http://www.paradise33.com I may check it out next week or so. |

I checked out the old Peppermills site this weekend. The fire pit IS still there. However, right now it only has teh bubbling water - they are bringing in a guy this week to show them how to get the fire going. Also, you can't sit directly near the fire pit anymore - it's closed off (for now). But you can see if anywhere in the bar area. I did not try the vietnamese fare but the bartender said it was very tasty. In my opinion, this place needs more time to settle in before it's worth going to - the bar area was too brightly lit, the bartender is still figuring out how to make drinks, and the fire pit is not fully functional. other than that, the dining areas looked upscale - huge aquarium and plush booths, and the bar area (the Bambu lounge" was mildly tropical in decor but no tikis. |

I got that email from the Peppermill about the expansion. I read it carefully and it is a totally new building replacing the small motel buildings, not affecting the current big casino building. It says that there will be some new bars added bringing the total # of bars to 18. And they are moving some restaurants into the new casino, namely Romanza and the buffet, but it looks like the original coffee shop and bars are staying. |

I ate at the old Peppermills site in Condord for lunch today - now called Paradise 33. The fire pit has been fixed! The vietnamese food is pretty decent. Happy hour sounded promising - 3-6 every day, half off beer and well drinks, half off appetizers. |
